Not so much a question but an answer reason posted here is unable to access the discusion answered by Joe
1 Use another micro via I2C bus or Rs232
2 Use Charlie multiplexing
3 Texas instruments supply 24bit io expander accessed via I2C bus
4 Motorola supply a 16 bit version of the above I2C bus
5 Old method but still used 74LS373 8 bit io expansion parrellel io
In all cases see attached
