Degree choice

Most managers that I've worked under in large companies do not have a formal management degree. Instead, they started out as a contributing technical member and then moved into management as opportunities arise. If you work at a large company for more that a few years, you'll likely have a lot of opportunities to move into a management position.

I would focus on a specific technical discipline that you enjoy, and the management opportunities will soon follow if you are passionate about your work.

I am currently pursuing a masters in electrical engineering. I am considering also getting a masters in management. Would this be beneficial?

I would like to become an engineering manager or systems engineer. I am considering moving away from very technical work and into more managerial role. What career path advice would you suggest for me?

Also, how does one become an engineering manager? I've heard it takes a few years as a regular engineering before becoming a manager. Personal anecdotes would be appreciated.

Have a read and browse at

and other online technical & scientific journals, and see if that is the kind of work you want to do.
The 21st century is the era of IT, so you should never be out of work !
But you will continually need to read and research diligently to keep up !
