The USB port operates at 5V. To charge your phone from a 6V battery pack, the simplest solution is to add one or two diodes in series to drop the excess voltage.

By adding one ordinary diode (e.g. 1N4001) and one Schottky diode (e.g. 1N5817), the output voltage will be approximately 5 volts.

Make sure you get the correct polarity on the USB plug.

(Personally, I find it easier to just carry a spare charged phone battery, which are extremely cheap on Ebay. And much smaller than an adaptor.)
