- DIY USB Adapter for Car Lighter: Convert 5V to 12V for SLR Charger, Transmitter & More

Can you make a USB adapter for a car socket at some cost? I have a few things, e.g. a car SLR battery charger with a car socket plug. Or some transmitter. And I'd like to use them outside of the car.

I have seen such things on various portals in Poland and China. It's just that the offers in Poland are not up-to-date and they seem to be abroad, but I'm curious if you can do something like that yourself if you have a cable, a cigarette lighter socket and a USB plug. But how to make such converters from 5v to 12v? Is it even possible?

Hypothetically, it is possible, but the balance sheet is highly questionable.
2.1A taken from USB (and that's a lot, it heats up and not everyone will live long) will give at 100% THEORETICAL efficiency below 1A / 12V

Assuming that the powerbank will give 2.1A, when increasing the voltage, you will ideally get 1A, which may or may not be enough.
I would suggest buying baskets for AA cells (12 pcs in) and a cigarette lighter socket.
You buy 12 nickel-hydrogen cells and get a voltage of about 15V, which corresponds to the voltage in the car's installation (many car chargers disconnect below 12V in order not to discharge the battery).
And it's ready.

So such adapters that I can see even about PLN 80 are a bit worth nothing .. it's good to know.


Can you create something like that from 18650 cells? I have a few in stock or the rest I would like to buy ..
