DC Motor Runs Too Fast

On my troubleshooting chart its says if your motor is running too fast it might be that you have made improper connections. What do they mean by improper connections?

Some equipments have more than one voltage supply within them, so if it is connected to the wrong terminals, a motor may, for example, possibly be connected to 12V instead of 6V,.

What type of motor is it, for a fan, a pump, what is it driving or what kind of equipment is it installed in ?

What is the motor's rated voltage, and what voltage are you supplying it with ?

It's really difficult to answer your question without knowing more about what you are doing, or what the situation is. About all I (we) can do is throw wild guesses at you. Put yourself in the position of the person attempting to answer your question, and then ask yourself, "did I provide enough information for them to have a clue what I'm talking about?"
