Hi guys,

This is about power output of a solar power, specifically about the units Watts and Watt-hour. What's the difference?

How do you come up with the unit Watt-hour if I am recording power for 6 hours everyday (from 9am to 3pm) with 30 minutes interval.
So what that means is I record power at 9am,9:30,10,10:30 and so on until 3pm. So that is 13 records in all.

Question: Find: Total Energy generated for that 6 hours.

Please guys I need your help.

A watt is a unit of power while a watt-hour is a unit of energy.

For your 30 minute measurements take each power reading and multiply it by 0.5 hours to find the energy in watt-hours for the 0.5 hour time period. Add the 12 measurements starting at 9:30 (do not use the measurement at 9:00) to find the total energy in watt-hours.

I just want to point out to the OP that this just gives an estimate of the energy. Measurements at closer intervals would of course improve this estimate.
The estimate made from measurements at 30 minute intervals may suit your needs. Hopefully, you do not have periodic cloud coverage at the same interval

Yes sir Donald you are correct. Sir I have another question, I hope you don't mind.

I have a 100-Watt rated solar panel, therefore the average power it can generate throughout the day should not exceed 100-watts, right?

What if I want to get the monthly average power. Should it not exceed 3000-Watts(100 x 30 days) or still it should not exceed 100-Watts?

I'm just confused. I'm sorry sir.

In the Southwestern United States, where we get a lot of sun, the daily summer time output for a solar panel is said to be five hours at rated power. Your 100 watt panel can be expected to output 500 watt-hours per day and 15,000 for a month.
