Hi All, I am servicing this display unit from a 20 year old rare automobile. No documentation. Can anyone tell me what this blue component is? It reads open ...No resistance or capacitance. Thanks...

Hi Roger,

Have you tried to measure if there is an inductance or try the lowest possible value of resistance?

Probably it came from a country that develops their own tech. components.

Can you provide a top image of the entire part?

We need to see the components connected or near that blue component.

Hello Roger - that part looks like a ceramic resonator or crystal. Also the way it is connected seems to me that it is part of the clock generation scheme for the large chip close to it.

If the circuit is functional at all, scope the terminals of the blue part and see the waveform. If its anything like a square or triangle or sawtooth wave, it most certainly is a resonator or crystal.

By the way, to not mechanically restrain that component in an automotive application is criminal. A blob of RTV or hot-glue at a minimum.
