Hi, I'm working on a setup where we have a door that moves vertically and we want to ensure that it is not obstructed before we actuate it.

What we are thinking is some sort of laser strip like elevators use. We tried IR, but it wasn't working very reliably (maybe we were not setting it up correctly).

Hi Michael,

The sensor could be placed before the door or another set up would be using proximity sensor its best specially in non-contact situation.

Hello Mike,

have you tried curtain sensors....Keyence SL-V series and SL-C series.........but they are bulky...in size not sure you have mounting space for it.......

Or else you can brief how do you trigger this door action.....Is it solenoid or Motorised ..

I suggest for safety must put a safety label for hands off.......

Also low cost way can try adding a spring that will attached to your door assembly.....and if door is obstructed the spring will compress and attach a metal plate to spring .....this metal plate will trigger a proximity sensor......as soon as proximity sensor is triggered retract the door....
