i am going to commence studying physics of semiconductor,before i start i would like to know that i want to be strong in maths(like calculus ,numerical methods)?

Best to discuss this with the Institution where you intend to study, since they will have specific requirements for their course work. Physics and Maths to a suitable level will at the very least be prerequisites. If you check out the web "prerequisites for studying physics of semiconductors" there is information out there.
