About inverter and converter

Hi, while reading about inverters ,i came across these two cirucits....can anyone tell me are they same??what i know is AC-AC or DC-DC is converter but AC-DC or DC-AC is called as inverter,,,

Both circuits are the same, just different switching devices and turns ratios on the transformers. With the addition of rectifiers and filter capacitors on the output, they become non regulated dc-dc converters.
Both are rather simplistic, and are not likely to work reliably without additional circuitry.
