Hi there
I have very limited elctrical engineering knowledge but I believe someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.
I am using a PID to control the temperature of my kiln that I use to heat treat knife blanks.
The PID has an alarm relay that will send a 12v current when the set temperature is reached.
The kiln takes several hours to get up to temperature and is located about 15 mins drive away so its a pain if you set it up and come back several hours later and its not quite hot enough and you have wait around for it to heat up.
So is there a way for my laptop to receive a command from say a USB stick that is wired to the 12v alarm relay on my PID and send me a message through viber or something similar to my mobile phone?
The other way to do it is set up a wifi network camera (theres wifi in the workshop) so that I can check the PID temperature remotely but I'm interested in the first Idea.
So a summary......
12 volt signal from PID alarm.
12 volt reciever/switch to the computer somehow (USB?)
A program on the PC that identifies the USB and allows you to program a function when it recieves the signal.
Cheers
Tim
