Best Components and Protocols for Sending True/False Data via WiFi to Phone App

Hi, I'm a novice/student electrical engineer and I have an idea of a project where a device (a little circuit with some magnetic sensors), installed at my house, would transmit a wi-fi signal to an internet router/modem and that signal would reach my cellphone, with an app ready for that. The signal would be a simple true/false value.

My exact question is. What kind of components and commmunication protocol my device should have to make that leap for the wi-fi signal? Where should I look for that kind of info?

Hi Victor-There must be a zillion ways to do this, but one easy way to get going is with the Seeed Studio Wio Link Starter Kit It comes with a controller board called the Wio Link, and you can plug many different types of sensors into it.  It has Wi-Fi onboard and communicates to an app that you can install on your smartphone.Another possibility is the Particle Mesh system.  Their Argon board, plus the Grove starter kit would also do the job nicely.
