Analyze the network given in the figure, determine the characteristic equation for the currents in the network as a function of K1.
Find the values of K1 for which the roots of the characteristic equation are on the imaginary axis of the s-plane. Find the range of values of K1, for which the roots of the characteristic have real positive parts.

I agree with David Ashton, that you should attempt to solve this problem yourself.I'd like to tackle the problem privately for myself, but I am unfamiliar with the diamond-shaped component K1i1. What is K1i1?I learned linear circuit analysis through RF and amateur radio, rather than through EE classes. My analysis methods do not use the Laplace transform, so I am intrigued to try my methods on your problem. Again, What is K1i1?

K1i1 is a current controlled voltage source with a voltage of K1 * i1

Thanks, Elizabeth. I am assuming that i1 is conventional current flow (opposite direction to electron flow). I can calculate both with the 1H inductor paralleled by the 1ohm resistor (the gap in the wire closed), and with the 1H inductor not paralleled (the gap in the wire open).
