SMD component identification: Marking D50 BNS or DS0 BNS and package type

I have been trying to come to grips with the markings on smd devices. Mostly I have found an ID but the component in the attached photo has defeated me. Could someone please ID teh component as well as the package.
The marking (as can be seen on the photo) is either D50 BNS or DS0 BNS.

Ted...SMDs are often pigs to identify.  But that case looks like it is a power component.  it might be 8NS, not BNS, and the first line if pretty definitely D50 as the 5 is different from the S.There are 78xx regulators that come in SOIC-8 cases - see the ST datasheet here, page 4.  This is not the same case but you will note that the two middle pins on each side are ground - as yours are joined together this fits.  The maker is not obvious... A lot of information can come from where this IC came from.  If is was on a board that would have had a regulator on it that is a good indicator.You could try applying a voltage to the Vin pin (from the quoted datasheet) and monitor the Vout, use a current limited (say 10-20 mA or use a 100R resistor in series with Vin) supply and turn up the voltage slowly, while monitoring the input current and the output voltage.But it may also be a dual mosfet or something like that....Happy investigations....

Hi DavidThanks for the feedback, very useful. Your comment on a board that required a regulator resonated so I searched for the service manual. It listed the part and it is indeed a regulator.For the record it is an LDO,  R1171x series in an HSOP-6J package.cheersTed
