I have just found out that AspenCore (0wner of several publications in the electronics industry) has laid off 4 of their technical editors. Sadly our own Max is one of them. I do not know the reasons nor do I have an idea what Aspencore will do with EE Web and their other publications.

I am not party to any of these decisions, nor do I have any more knowledge that I just imparted.

I hope they clear up the confusion soon.

Sad news, if confirmed. I like Max's relaxed style and the exchanges we have had here in the comment section have been informative and entertaining. Hopefully he will find a new niche soon.

Max will still be contributing his columns in Practical Electronics magazine and is optimistic about securing more freelance work, he is also busy speaking and touring same as ever. He said he enjoyed a very rare lie-in the other morning.Max and I bumped into each other on Usenet (sci.electronics) in the 1990s and everything went from there. He's a world-class contributor and excellent at what he does so I'm sure he'll bounce back. For our part I'll be reviewing where it leaves us after our main stakeholder in EEweb was bowled a googly (q.v.).-- Alan W
