Calculating if POE switch outputs enough power to supply various devies

Have a look at the  Wikipedia page on PoEThe first table,  comparison of PoE parameters, shows  the spec for PoE+ in the second column.For the two units you are looking at, divide the total power available by the number of ports. The four port model provides 120W, 30W/port.The eight port model only has 180W total power available, which is  22.5W/port in theory. This is related to the power available from the power supply (see the power supply specification in their spec sheet). However, you could still use 30W on some of the ports, provided the total power on all eight ports doesn't exceed 180W. That requires that you would have to manage the port usage more carefully if you are using  some of the ports to maximum specified capacity.Cheers,Richard

So for the 8 port switch, if I only used 6 ports there will be 30W maximum available at each port? But according to standards only 25.5W will be able to my devices, is that right?Another question:

I have this PoE splitter i want to use at the output of the PoE switch. The datasheet says the maximum input power is 70W and the max output power is 54W, does that mean the efficiency is 54/70 = 0.77. So if i put in 25.5W into the PoE splitter, there will only be 25.5*0.77 = 19.6W available at the output ?

That's how I would interpret it.That efficiency is at max power. Efficiency  drops as the power goes down. There is no graph of power out versus power in, but you could measure it. It should not be too significant, but it might get as low as  60-70% at minimum output.Cheers,Richard
