Hi Alan,I want to backup and control versions of program files for PLC, HMI, and SCADA. It may be included drive, robot and CNC in an automated industrial production, for example. The Idea is create a standard task steps for a colaborated technician team, expanding to a plant floor within a shared environment network. The purpose is ensure quality control management, security, and ensure correct tragedy recovery quickly.
Hi Alex,If your backup is a once off after commissioning I wouldn't be overly concerned with shared access and version control etc but since your asking the question I assume you need to download as left files regularly?As I'm sure you know a lot of the equipment that you may be creating a backup for won't necessarily take kindly to automated backups of it's software while in service/running. Do you intend on creating backups when the equipment is shutdown/ stopped or while it is running?Either way I'm guessing you are sending someone in with a laptop to create backups of all files and you are looking at just a procedural approach rather than an automated/unmanned so to speak approach.The quality control will only be as good as your technicians approach, regardless of procedure, the technician will save the file most likely in a number of places, desktop, laptop folder, network folder. Most software obviously can be forced to save in selected locations, so I would try to lock down the shared backup folder as the only option to save to, assuming they have access at all times. Then only allow copying and not deletion of the files on the shared folder. Using a consistent naming convention of backup files across the entire team should then let you access the most recent and relevant file quickly and easily.
