In alternative, if the load is not too high, you can connect a resistor in series to the circuit (better if it at the beginning of the circuit) of a very low value (< 0.5 Ohm and high watt).
Then you calculate the current through the circuit using Ohm's Law:
I = V/R
as:
I = Volt on the resistor / Ohm of the resistor
The power dissipation of this resistor must be greater than I*V.
