Hello! This is my first post on Elektroda, as I have been coping on my own so far :) I am asking you to recommend a solution to the following problem. My wife and I are renting a flat on a so-called short-term basis. We don't generally have problems with guests, but they notoriously leave the lights on or, worse, the air conditioning. I want to install a system similar to a hotel's, that is, combined with a key fob (key) (as in the attached photo) or with a magnetic card. The issue is that this magnetic/proximity switch, as used in hotels, should be at the door, and unfortunately the switchboard is deep inside the flat. Is there any way to remotely connect such a device at the door to the switch in the switchboard? Ideally, this device at the door should run on a battery so that there is no need to redo the installation.

by installing a hotel switch you do not need to re-wire the installation, just run one cable from the switch to a contactor in the residential switchboard, which contactor will de-energise the whole switchboard.
Hire an electrician and he can do it in a day - of course, after he has visited the property and agreed the conditions of cooperation.
There won't even be a trace.
Wired ones are problematic because they can be disrupted and customers won't be thrilled about the lack of power, whereas wired ones are maintenance-free.

Here I would draw attention to three things:

    - in hotels the air-conditioning is usually not switched off by the guest's card, because it is supposed to be used to hold the temperature
    - such a domestic air-conditioning unit, if its power supply is cut off in heating mode, behaves in a very unpleasant manner to the ear, among other things, it unseats the four-way valve. This has the effect of discharging > 30 bar pressure into the tubing at a much lower pressure and is described by my mother as "something exploded". Guests will also be amazed.
    - well, and such a home air conditioner, once powered up, will not start for the next 3-5 minutes due to compressor protection. When you switch from sleep to running mode, the compressor starts in 10 seconds, but after a power interruption - you have to wait. Here there will be a quick report of "air conditioning not working" and a star less in the ratings....

And I might also add that hotels sometimes get two cards - the second one is not "for backup", just in case the guest wants to leave, but nevertheless leaving the laptop to charge.
