    Hello

what is a discretization error? maybe someone has a short definition in "google" it's not really, there are some substitutes but I haven't seen anything specific

    I found:

Discretization error - resulting from a finite number of N samples per period
    signal.

Is that enough ? (I don't need patterns)

More or less this means that if the waveform we are examining changes in the moment between samples, the information about this change is lost. Surely that should be enough for the peasant mind?

well, it's enough for a peasant hehe, but I don't know if it's enough for a laborer :) but thanks

The discretization error occurs in digital meters (it is a component of the measurement error). To minimize it, set the measurement range to as small as possible, e.g. when we measure the voltage within 6V and we have the ranges of 10V, 100V and 1000V, then we set 10V and not 1000V :)

    heh, it's pretty intuitive :)

Discretization error occurs when approximating a continuous quantity with a discrete quantity and is due to the finite resolution of the measurement method, e.g. you are trying to approximate (or measure) 1.25 seconds by a multiple of 0.1s, which may give you 12 or 13 [basis lengths].

So to put it simply, the resolution is too small to catch the difference between 1.20 and 1.25s or 1.25 and 1.30 (depends on the method of discretization)

Okay, I understand what's going on. Thanks

Topic summary

Discretization error refers to the inaccuracies that arise when a continuous signal is approximated using a finite number of discrete samples. This error occurs when the sampling resolution is insufficient to capture rapid changes in the waveform, leading to loss of information. For instance, measuring a time interval like 1.25 seconds with a resolution of 0.1 seconds may result in rounding errors, such as recording it as either 12 or 13. To minimize discretization error in digital measurements, it is advisable to select the smallest possible measurement range, ensuring higher resolution and accuracy.
