I have a radio instruction in pdf which has 20 pages, I would like to print it two pages of instruction on an A4 sheet in such a way that after printing it can be sewn in the middle to create a booklet (i.e. 1 of 20, 2 of 19 etc.) . Can it be done? I say right away that converting to another format is not an option, because it is often impossible to convert correctly, and secondly, the file is password protected against text extraction.

Don't have duplex printing in your printer settings? If not, print page by page and manually feed the pages.

Much depends on the printer you have. If it has auto-print on two sides, that's fine. If you have to turn pages manually, it's a bit worse. Some printers have a booklet printing feature in their drivers.
If yours does not have such a function, install Adobe Reader - it has the above-mentioned function.

I assume your printer does not support auto rotation.
Printing from Adobe Reader looks like this: you check 'page scaling' on 'booklet print' and then print 'booklet subset' as 'front only' and then 'back only'. After printing the 'front' you have to arrange the printed pages properly in the feeder - this can be confusing at first and depends on the printer. You have to try.

You can also print the odd pages first and then the even pages.

Enable printing of 2 pages on one sheet and when printing, check the option to print the selected pages. Then in the field next to it, enter the pages in the same order as you wrote, i.e. 1, 20, 2, 19 ... etc - you will have a book ...

Provided (for even or odd-numbered printing), that when "turning" the pages, it will not collect several printed pages at once.
Better to do it one at a time.

    Greetings.

    But you fired ...

After all, Cute PDF is used to convert ordinary documents to PDF and not to double-sided printing.

Thanks for all the advice, but it still didn't solve my problem
    - I do not have a printer, so I wanted to have a file for printing and print it at the university
-pdf file is protected against text extraction, installed adobe reader and after saving the copy tried to convert to another format - nothing, too many bugs and shortcomings
-fineprint nice, but it is impossible to print on one sheet of pages 20 and 1, you can only print in order, or even / odd,
I don't know how to do it anymore, maybe someone knows some conversion program that does it 100% well, because I don't know anymore.

This booklet you want to obtain is going to be 'double'? I mean, should the text be on two sides of a given page (like a regular book), or should the text be as you wrote, i.e. one-sided (that's how I understood)?

First, install a virtual pdf printer program (eg PDFCreator). This will allow you to prepare a PDF for the printing house.
If it's going to be a regular booklet (double-sided) then just turn on booklet printing (page scaling) in Adobe Reader, select a subset with 'on both sides'. Set PDFCreator as the printer and print. There should be a PDF ready for printing. Take the resulting file to the university and tell them to print on both sides (if possible). After the appropriate folding of the printed sheets, a booklet will be created :)

If it is to be one-sided printing (as you wrote 1 of 20, 2 of 19 etc.) then the only solution that comes to mind is to create 10 PDFs with two pages each. You do it so that you select page scaling to 'many pages per sheet' and as the print range you set in turn 1.20 then 2.19 etc. You print to pdf using PDFCreator and take the prepared files to the university.

This operation is not very complicated, so you should be able to handle it.

    Greetings.

If you want the second option (single-sided printing) then I've just noticed that the sequential feeding of the pages for printing also works. So you don't need to create 10 files. You simply enter 1, 20, 2, 19, 3, 18 as a page range ... and the rest you do as described :)

Oooooooooooooo that's what I meant :) . Only that, unfortunately, I can not save this file later in PDFCreator or CutePDF Writer because I get an error:
    ERROR: undefined
    OFFENDING COMMAND: get
    STACK:
    / quit
    -dictionary-

See if this error occurs with other documents or just this one.

Unfortunately, only with this, so it is probably the fault that this instruction is protected, I took it from the electrode, I couldn't find it anywhere else. And there is probably no way to get to this manual without security, or to get the password, so I am in the spot.

It seems to me that even a secured file should be able to be printed this way. Check if you have the current versions of Adobe Reader and PDFCreator (e.g. at www.dobreprogramy.pl). You can also try to print to PostScript (via eg PDFCreator) or from a program other than Adobe Reader (eg Foxit Reader).
If it does not work, you just need to go to the point where you want to print and ask for the printout you need. If they don't have a lot of people, maybe they will help you ;)

    greetings

I am on a similar topic, so I will not start a new thread. Well, when using double-sided brochure printing in Adobe Reader, I always have an offset of the document printed on the obverse with respect to the reverse. This is due to the setting of the margins (the bottom one is always much larger) - that's why I have more free space on the right side of the document, on each side of it (I would like there to be more of it on the left side) - then bending the page in half creates a spine on the text (on one of the pages). My question: is it possible to change the margin settings of the printer somewhere (driver, system)?

I will say yes, I have printed a dozen things in the form of a brochure - manuals etc, and I have never had a similar problem, so either you have something set wrong in the printing options (it's not about the margins) or you just print some strange thing :) .
