  • Is your computer resetting?
Or maybe it won't turn on?
Your computer shuts down while gaming?

Perhaps the power supply is to blame!

I present the blacklist of power supplies .

Achieve, Akyga Basic, Altis, Aspire, Atlas, Aton, Bandit, Bestec, Carbon ( not Modecom ), Coba, Codegen, ColorSit, Computer, Cube Max, Deer, Delux, Eurocase, Everpower, Feel, Fever, Four Star, Gembird, Gigabyte, GoodWatt, Hawk, Hedy, Impet, Incore, Intex-Action, i-box, I-TEC, KingStar, Levicom, Likeenergy, Linkword, L&C, Logic, LOGISYS, Macron, Megabyte, Mercury, Metropilis, Modecom Feel, Mustang, Newton Power, Pangu, Platin Power, Power, Power Color, Powercomp, Powerfox, Powertec, Procase, Procomp, Octigen, Opengate, Qoltec, QTECHNOLOGY, Q-tec, RAIDMAX, Rebeltec, Rubikon, Ropla, Sansun, SilenX, Sun Pro, Suntek, Take Me, Task, TE, Tracer, Tronje, Ultra Media, V Power, Whitenergy, Win, Xilence ( produced up to and including 2011 ), XION, X-Power, 2N .

Few people realise when buying a computer how important a power supply is. It determines whether all components get the right voltage and the stability of the whole set-up depends on it.
If you have one of these power supplies, you will need to replace it. These power supplies, although they may have astronomical wattages on their stickers, 'give away' very little! But this is not the only indication of their 'cheapness'. During a failure of such a power supply, several other components are usually damaged, e.g. the hard disk drive, the motherboard, the processor, and in the worst cases, everything. Of course, there are cases where nothing 'dies' after a failure of such a power supply. Sometimes it happens that such power supplies work faultlessly for many years - but these are really exceptions! These power supplies are often the reason for the instability of the entire computer. Obviously, if you are faced with the choice of a power supply unit - do not under any circumstances buy one of these!
It can be said that these power supplies (if you can call them that...) consist of a board, a transformer, 3 capacitors, a fan and 2 pieces of aluminium.
Just to illustrate, I will add 2 pictures: the first one shows the power supply in question, and the second one shows the real power supply. .

    A real power supply...:
Black list of power supplies and reputable brands of power supplies .

At first glance you can see the difference between the power supplies. Additionally, the performance of a 450W 'power supply' from a blacklisted brand differs significantly from that of a branded 450W power supply.

Additionally, please see what 'chokes' are used in power supplies from the above manufacturers (photo from a disassembled Take Me 400 power supply): .

As you know (or not) a choke is a coil wound on a core... I don't think a longer comment is needed? But if anyone still doesn't believe: https://www.elektroda.pl/rtvforum/topic1983518.html

There was almost a fire. It was only due to the fact that the user was at home, smelled the stench and smoke coming from under the desk, quickly disconnected the power supply and put the computer out on the balcony to extinguish.

I would suggest changing some items.
    - Putting Thermaltake into the blacklist with an indication of the series tapped on CWT
    - Throwing Chieftec into the blacklist with an indication of the series tapped on CWT
    - Putting Corsair into the blacklist with an indication of the VS series tapped on CWT
    - Adding to the whitelist under Modecom the series tapped on FSP
    - Adding to the whitelist of Nitrox, except that high-power constructions (solid and safe constructions)

I am calling for the reputable SilentiumPC power supplies to be removed from the list. The Vero L3 just exploded at my place with no load, a friend's Vero L2 damaged two motherboards. This is junk.
    Greetings ;) .

What does that mean- with the indication of the series patched on the CWT ? I am seriously asking

It's about series where the electronics manufacturer is CWT, although in general I would hold off on such a broad classification, as CWT has some very decent platforms in addition to the low-end ones.

In general, classifying power supplies by the manufacturer's name has a lot of flaws. Of course, this blacklist is not totally useless, as the cheapest Chinese made with the aim of saving as much as possible on hardware should undoubtedly be on this blacklist, there are some manufacturers who have not made a single good PSU.

On the other hand, after sifting this out, there remain manufacturers who have some power supplies that are poor, some that are average/acceptable, some that are decent and some that are great. And in this case, the categorisation of good/bad manufacturer should be changed to good/bad product, because each product should be evaluated individually.

So this list should be taken very much as an overview, and once you have chosen a PSU model, it is worth reading the reviews.

As much as possible - the selection stages and this reading of reviews is definitely something you should do before you buy ;)

    .

The Vero L3 is supposedly a "novelty", in addition SilentiumPC is now ENDORFY (from the end of 2022r) and so something feels that with the name change maybe something has gone wrong, but I have not yet had to deal with the Vero L3 as well as "Endorfy".

There are still power supplies on the market with the "SilentiumPC" brand and somehow I trust them - I have not yet been disappointed by them. The whole company at my place, and I and my family have been on it for a long time. Admittedly, mainly the models "Elementum E2 550W" and "Supremo FM2 Gold 750W" so about these models and I can't say a bad word :) .

When I was looking for a power supply I did things a little differently. I poked "psu tier list" into google, the first link and (out of fanfiction)Tier A. It's a bit old now, but poke around a while on this site and you can find a great deal.

Fact, I also had this Elementum back in the day, after replacing it with a Vero L3 I sold it but it worked without fail for a good 4-5 years

I second that, but not because SPC/Endorfy are a poor brand (although I have a lot of doubts at the moment).

I recently purchased an 8 FM2 Supremo Gold 750W, I'm greeted by a sign on the box already on the day:
    Quote:
Not all power supplies are made the same
    .
Without even taking them apart, it's immediately apparent that each one is from a different parish, too fresh for any of them to burn up, knock it off....

The brand itself has suffered a colossal drop in quality - apart from the power supplies made from random parts from the "useful-ness" box, the cases themselves cry out for vengeance to heaven - before Covid Signum had a really solid aluminium sheet, the current pieces are like made of paper, and the fan cables literally break in your hands - three hairs crosswise inside....

As I used to assemble a lot of gear on their parts, I'm just plain scared now - I think I'll trust the infamous Bandit Power more (pun intended).

Well, what about something relevant? Because on the basis of this it's so hard to pretty much conclude that the PSU is bad.

The general assumptions are valid (avoid the cheapest rubbish), but most of the unacceptable low-end junk has evaporated from the market (maybe even literally, as someone plugged it in). Quite a few brands have appeared that are not on this list. But also this list has had one flaw from the start. It rates the manufacturer, not specific products. For example, you cannot say that a Chieftec power supply is good. Nor that it is weak. Because depending on the model you can hit one or the other.

In general, it is best to look for tests and information about specific models, not about the manufacturer itself.

Exactly right. A given manufacturer may have a model on cheap components and another on quite decent ones.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around identifying unreliable power supply units (PSUs) and recommending reputable brands. A blacklist of problematic brands includes Achieve, Akyga Basic, Aspire, and many others, while suggestions for reputable brands include Modecom (specific series), Nitrox, and SilentiumPC, with a focus on models like Elementum E2 and Supremo FM2 Gold. Users share experiences of failures with certain models, such as SilentiumPC's Vero L3, and emphasize the importance of researching individual PSU models rather than relying solely on brand reputation. Links to external resources for further information on recommended PSUs are also provided.
