I have been having a problem with the above-mentioned refrigerator for some time now. Ice appears at the bottom of the freezer and there is so much of it that it prevents the drawer from opening. The only way is to defrost the refrigerator. I noticed that the lower part of the freezer rim at the junction with the door seal gets very hot. My question is why this happens and how to fix this error. I have some suspicions about the cause, but I need confirmation. Please help me diagnose.

Is the refrigerator cooling properly? Second thing, check the operation of the condenser fan and compressor.

It is a "no-frost" refrigerator and the water outlet from periodic defrosting of the evaporator has simply frozen. Instead of flowing out into the container, the water flows into the freezer and freezes under and around the bottom drawer.
There may be several reasons. frozen drain, damaged electric drain heater (if available in this model), clogged drain, freezing refrigerator housing.
The simplest method is to unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours. During this time, open the freezer door. If the problem recurs, you need to dismantle the back wall of the freezer and look for the causes.

Let me bump this thread because I have an identical refrigerator and the same problem. I read what samsu100 wrote and got to the cover in the freezer. All I had to do was unscrew two screws and remove the cover. There was ice and water in the gutter at the bottom, so I removed it, but what puzzles me is that the water did not flow out of the gutter, it just stood still. Does this mean the drain is frozen or clogged? If so, is it possible to access the drain, e.g. from the back of the refrigerator, to fix it? The defrosting method is not really an option because I have a lot of frozen food :D

As for the heater, yes, it is in this fridge, but I don't know if it heats, because when I took it apart it was cold and ice was accumulating, so it may be damaged. Is it possible to buy such parts somewhere on the website, and if so, at what price? Is it worth calling the service center (costs) or is it better to do it yourself?

    Thank you and best regards!

Edit: If I get to this heater, will it be enough to measure its resistance to check it?

If there is water in the gutter, you need to unscrew the cover at the back of the refrigerator and locate the hose that drains the condensate into the container (on the left side, attached to the condenser with a clamp). The hose ends with a rubber "flap" and its contamination and blockage often causes problems with the drain and therefore with defrosting. You can check the heater by briefly connecting it to the mains - it heats up immediately - please don't burn yourself :(

Thank you for the fast reponse. I took off the cover, the "flap" was indeed clogged, when I cleaned it all the water came off immediately. I recommend checking there from time to time, because the holes in the fan compartment cover were so full of dust that the cool air practically didn't reach there at all. The effect was that the compressor was very hot, and therefore, I suppose, it had to be turned on more often to cool the oil. It is possible that electricity consumption will even drop.

Once again, many thanks for your answer. As for the heater, I won't check it for now, we'll see if the situation repeats itself.

Hi, I have the same problem with the LG GBP31DSLZN refrigerator, unfortunately I don't know how to remove the cover inside the freezer, I detach the top and sides because they are on latches, but the bottom doesn't come out. I can force it out, but I'm sure I'll break something :( I feel like something is blocking me below. Could someone send me a photo of what it looks like from the inside? When I see it, I'll know what to do with it

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around issues with the LG GR 389SQF refrigerator, specifically ice accumulation at the bottom of the freezer, obstructing the drawer. Users suggest that this is likely due to a frozen or clogged drain from the defrosting process, which can cause water to freeze instead of draining properly. Recommendations include unplugging the refrigerator for 24 hours to defrost, checking the operation of the condenser fan and compressor, and inspecting the drain hose for blockages. One user successfully resolved the issue by cleaning a clogged drain flap, which allowed water to flow properly. Another user inquired about accessing the cover in a similar model, LG GBP31DSLZN, for troubleshooting.
