Hello everyone, I left the car at the traffic lights (it was there for a week) and I completely discharged the battery, i.e. even the central locking does not open the door and after turning the key the indicator lights in the ignition switch do not light up.

car VW SHARAN 1.9 TDI 1996 1Z engine

    Battery capacity 95Ah

Will a fully discharged battery be able to be recharged and will it hold? I would like to add that I drove the car to work every day, i.e. the car is used quite regularly.

I'm abroad at the moment and the new one here costs 150Euro, a
    rectifier about 80 Euro.

I hope that this is not a banal post and the admins will understand my situation.

I would borrow a charger from someone there from work, but will such a large battery, fully milked to zero, bring the charger back to life? ?

    Regards, Zenek14

For 150 Eur, it's worth trying to charge.

How to check if it has been sulphated? when I shake the battery I can hear liquid inside.
The battery is original VW, eja 780A

Do not overdo it, charge the battery for a new one, you will always be in time. I had 0.5V batteries and they are doing well. Only borrow a rectifier, because buying it is pointless

thanks for the info. And how much do you need to charge such a battery? Because I know that with the lowest possible current so as not to damage the battery, and whether the charger will charge this 95 Ah battery?

10 hours with 9.5A or less. Anyway, for 80 euro the charger should have an automatic shutdown after charging

I know that the topic is very old ... but timely.
New electronic rectifiers - often impossible to save. But the old Polish rectifiers are doing well. Recently, I had to save the battery myself (he was 10 years old - he was discharged several times). The car continued to burn (but hard) = but I am replacing it for the winter with a new one (I do not want to stress for PLN 230 - I gave it for the new Fiaam)

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of recharging a fully discharged 95Ah battery from a 1996 VW Sharan 1.9 TDI with a 1Z engine. The user, Zenek14, inquires whether the battery can be revived after being completely drained for a week. Responses indicate that if the battery plates are sulphated, it may be irreparable, but charging is still worth attempting. Suggestions include checking the battery's voltage and electrolyte density to assess sulphation levels. A slow charge at 9.5A for about 10 hours is recommended, and using an older rectifier may yield better results than newer models. The cost of a new battery is noted to be around 150 Euros, while a rectifier costs about 80 Euros.
