How much should the timing belt be replaced in the Passat B6 2.0TDI 103kW 2006 year of production. There is information in the service book that every 120,000 km. I am asking for professional information.

Apparently every 90,000, but knowing what is going on today in the subject, I would not risk such runs.

I would suggest 60-90 thousand, because waiting for 120 may end up repairing the engine by accident.

in the car mechanic training book they write (general mileage of all models and brands) 80,000km. I think it's worth sticking to it ...

I mention timings after 60,000 km and all my friends also within these limits (55-70,000 km). This is not changed every day and it is better not to wait for the belt to break, etc. There are so-called "collision-free" engines (older 8V on mono-injection - mainly VAG and Opel) in which breaking the belt does not make any trouble, but most (if not all) now produced there are collisions - valves bend, etc. It is also better not to risk it because then it may be too late and often after such a crash it is not worth repairing the engine.

    Hello,
the timing belt is replaced with 2.0 TDI 103 kw for the 2006 model every 120 tkm and from the 2007 model every 150 tkm costs about PLN 2,000.
    greetings

you can replace every 120tkm, but I do not recommend 60-80
and as for the price in the service of 2000, and half of the mechanic

the manufacturer, giving 120kkm, did not give the upper limit of possibilities for sure. I do not see the point in replacing 60kkm, unless you have nothing to do with the money.
it is important to replace with good company parts and every single element of the timing gear.
I recommend rollers, SKF water pump, GATES belt
check how they folded the front after replacement because the entire front belt will have to be knocked down, along with the lamps and bumper

a friend asked a question, so many answered, like MiKev writes well, but I have already seen a few cars that did not reach 120, like the first timing is the most powerful because the factory did it, but a year ago I did the 97 thousand belt, had and broke 1 owner and the breakdown, I was hard to advise in November, vektre was 52 thousand and also the fact was 9 years, I personally bought a {1200 PLN} golf II 1.6TD with a mileage of 160 thousand {supposedly} drove it who wanted {such a workshop} until 2005 had about 330,000, maybe the tower did not do the timing, it did not matter to me that you can see how it is in this case, all colleagues describing the posts more clearly are right, maybe I'm wrong

There are also such situations, sometimes you buy a new bulb in the store and it also does not work. I replaced the Audi only when it had 106KMil and it lasted until then, now I have a new fieste and the manufacturer says that the belt should be replaced at 100KMil and I do not see the point in replacing it after 50,000. Sometimes the new replacement belt is worse than the original.

It's just like the 2.0 TDI, if you have a later model, you have nothing to worry about, but it's worth reading.

Topic summary

The discussion centers around the timing belt replacement interval for the 2006 Passat B6 2.0TDI 103kW. While the service book suggests a replacement every 120,000 km, several contributors recommend earlier intervals, citing 60,000 to 90,000 km as safer options to avoid potential engine damage from belt failure. The consensus emphasizes the importance of using high-quality parts during replacement, including SKF rollers and GATES belts. The cost for replacement is noted to be around PLN 2,000, with some suggesting that a lower price may be available through independent mechanics. Overall, caution is advised against adhering strictly to the manufacturer's recommendation due to the risk of belt failure.
