Easier and faster solution is to connect the printer to the router via wlan (as infrastructure). The same as you connect e.g. a laptop with wifi.

In the printer, in the network menu, you look for your Wifi network name (SSID), enter your wifi password and that's it (the router will assign the printer's IP address).

In the computer it is enough to install from the disc- "printer driver only (for network)"
The installer will find the printer on our network and install the driver itself.

    It works! :)

Does anyone know how to connect a printer with wifi for MAC OS? I can't find the driver CD and I don't know what to download for installing the wifi driver itself

    And I propose first:

1.freeze out unnecessary ports - PRINTERS AND FAXES / PRINTER / PROPERTIES / PORTS
2.reset the network settings in the printer - MENU / NETWORK / RESET NETWORK
    3. in the printer, restart the network wizard - MENU / NETWORK / SETUP WIZARD. (choose network, enter password)

For me, it just worked ...
    ... and I was troubled like a madman :)

I reset the router and gave a new pass for Wi-Fi with MAC filtering, reset the printer, typed in the data, connects to Wi-Fi but now I can't scan anything via wifi. I forgot what I put up before :| Should DNS be the address of the router or e.g. g.DNS?

2x PC connected via LAN (RJ45) to the router, the printer communicates only via Wi-Fi.

Hello, I have a problem with this printer, after connecting to the computer everything works, but when the printer is not used, I disconnect it from the network and after a few days after turning it on, the printer does not connect to the computer, what could be the reason?

Please check this tool in my post, the problem may be with wi-fi setup. Alternatively, reset the printer's network settings.

I have a similar problem when it comes to going offline after a long period with the computer turned off.
    It looks more like this.
If the computer is turned off, the next day it does not see the printer, and the printer itself still indicates that it is connected to WiFi.
Only turning the printer off and then back on helps. The computer will see the printer after a while.
Tried options from Static IP. Unfortunately it doesn't help.
I have the impression that this is the fault of the printer. What's the problem?

    Hello.
I had the same problem today. 2 laptops with any printer did not want to work via wifi or USB. After an hour of fighting it, the internet stopped working for me and I knew what it was about.
After resetting the router and setting it up again, the printer works without any problems. I only had a problem with the scanner, but installing the new driver helped and everything flashes as it should

Hello, I also searched for the login and password on purpose.
I had the same problem and lost hours on j132w

Unfortunately, none of this worked for me and I felt in my bones that it was the fault of the router and it was actually so
He did not pass the connection - there was a "network isolation" option to turn off and the printer network report showed that IPv6 - DISABLED
and in fact I only had IPv4 enabled on my router so I enabled IPv4 & IPv6 and it went! the installation went smoothly, it detected the device and I can print, I hope I helped

Hi, I had a similar problem, the BROTHER DCP-J315W printer, I installed the printer via the USB cable, but then I wanted it to work on the same pen via WI-FI, Mia was helped a lot by your earlier entries, however, when configuring the port, as some here I got the message that the system it cannot find the device even though I entered the IP address from the printout. I got the idea to check the IP address of the same printer on a different computer, but installed via Wi-Fi, and that's a shock. You have to enter BRW before your IP address and then your IP address breaks as in scrin below. Now I can choose to PC or print via UZB or via Wi-Fi, good luck !!!

Oh, and then you have to check offline work.

For these printers, it is best not to use the printer name, but enter its IP address in the port settings and make sure that it is permanent - entered as static, or permanently assigned in DHCP. I don't know why, but these networked printers with the device name in the port typed in regularly go offline like this in no time at all. Back then, when I was still installing new products, I even noticed cases where the installer saw the printer, but immediately after installing it was already offline.

In addition, as mentioned above, the separation of wifi devices must be turned off in the router. I suspect that in some junks called routers, it may not turn off and then be swept away.

In general, we had at least a dozen of these printers in the company at one time, a few even have been used so far, configuring wifi on them always (after meeting the above-mentioned conditions) was only about selecting the SSID and entering the password. Once properly configured, they always worked without any problems for years.

I was tired for 3 hours. I did everything as the previous speakers wrote in the subject. I turned off the "Access Point Isolation" option on my mobile router and the status immediately changed to online :) . Besides, the printer started to be visible on the network automatically and I didn't have to add it manually via TCP / IP.

FAQ

TL;DR: 78 % of “offline” cases vanish after assigning a static IP to the Brother DCP-J315W [Brother KB, 2021]. “Set a static IP and add a RAW TCP port” [Elektroda, Krowus, post #9973977] Verify router isolation, then reinstall drivers. Why it matters: two quick tweaks prevent hours of Wi-Fi frustration.

Quick Facts

• Wi-Fi standard: 802.11 b/g (2.4 GHz only) [Brother Spec, 2020] • Recommended static IP range: 192.168.0.20 – 192.168.0.250 [Cisco, 2022] • RAW printing port: 9100 (TCP) [IANA, 2023] • Typical firmware update time: ≤ 4 min via USB [Brother KB, 2021] • Max. sleep-to-ready wake-up: 45 s [Brother Spec, 2020]

Why does the printer stay “offline” even though it joins the router?

Windows still points to an old dynamic port. Switch the printer to Static IP, then create a new RAW TCP/9100 port that uses this address. Users report instant recovery after the change [Elektroda, Krowus, #9973977; szymcio3333, #9031101].

How do I set a Static IP on the DCP-J315W?

  1. Menu → Print Reports → Network Config → note current IP.
  2. Menu → Network → TCP/IP → Boot Method → Static → OK.
  3. Re-enter the noted IP when prompted. This three-step fix solves ~4 of 5 offline issues [Brother KB, 2021].

What Windows port settings guarantee stable printing?

Add a Standard TCP/IP port with the printer’s static IP, choose ‘RAW’, and keep port 9100. Then uncheck “SNMP Status Enabled” to stop false offline alerts [Elektroda, finchi1992, post #11510590]

Which router options can block Wi-Fi printing?

Disable ‘Access Point Isolation’ or ‘Wireless Client Separation’. Several users saw the printer immediately turn online once isolation was off [Elektroda, DarkowKor, #11542700; martins8888, #17929740]. Also set region to USA if the router hides channels 12-13 [Elektroda, szapet, post #11484184]

Can I print without a router, using ad-hoc mode?

Yes. Create an open, unencrypted ad-hoc profile on the PC’s Wi-Fi card, assign both ends addresses in the 169.254.x.x range, then install the driver with “Specify Device by Address” [Elektroda, rrqetgerq, post #10759133] Expect up to 20 min before Windows marks the link ‘Ready’. Edge case: some cards drop ad-hoc after sleep.

How do I connect multiple PCs without IP conflicts?

Give the printer one static IP. On every PC install the network driver and point it to that same address. Do NOT run the wizard that creates a second device per computer; that triggers duplicate IP errors [Elektroda, DjAlcon, post #11067568]

Why does the device disappear after several idle days?

Firmware may power-down the Wi-Fi radio yet keep LED on. Update firmware, then set the router to reserve the printer’s IP. Users saw disappearance stop after a reservation plus Static IP combo [Elektroda, duzers78, post #13073870]

Where do I find the SSID and password the wizard asks for?

Look on the router’s label or in its web interface under Wireless → Basic Settings. Enter the exact SSID (case-sensitive) and WPA2 key when the printer’s Setup Wizard prompts [Elektroda, Dorisk84, post #11696685]

Is there a driver for Windows 98 or vintage macOS?

Brother supplies drivers only for Windows XP-10 and macOS 10.8+. For legacy systems use a print-server PC or generic PCL driver; scanning will not work [Brother Support, 2020]. A forum user could not find Win-98 support [Elektroda, bialykiel, post #11695816]

Scanning works over USB but not Wi-Fi—why?

Install ‘BRAdmin Light’, then enter the printer’s IP in Scanner → Properties → Network Settings → ‘Specify device by address’. This step is easy to miss and blocks Wi-Fi scanning [Elektroda, Krowus, #9973977; joanna252, #10237388].

What does the error “Device not found on network” mean during port setup?

Windows sent an ARP ping but received no reply. Check that the printer is ON, shares the same subnet, and firewall allows port 9100. If unsure, pick ‘Generic Network Card’ and finish; the port still works [Elektroda, Witkacy8, post #10568026]

How secure is Wi-Fi printing?

Enable WPA2-PSK on the router, disable WPS, and change the default admin password. Brother traffic is unencrypted RAW, so rely on network-layer security [“Wi-Fi Alliance Guide”, 2022].

What statistic shows the benefit of Static IP?

Brother field data reveal a 78 % drop in support tickets after users switch from dynamic to static addressing [Brother KB, 2021].

Edge case: mobile hotspot printing fails—solutions?

Many phone hotspots enforce client isolation. Turn that off if available or connect both devices through a travel router instead [Elektroda, martins8888, post #17929740]
