    Hello,
Does anyone know how to read the year of production of the windshield on a BMW? No standard marking (dots and numbers/numbers).

The indication of the production date is associated with the arrangement of numbers and dots. The place of the dot before or after the digit indicates the month, the digit - the year of production. There is no such thing, you can't read it :D

You can read from the vin number, the windshield could already be replaced.

You're wrong Kol. BMW, like any other brand, must mark the windows with the year of manufacture, the side markings are hidden under the strip - it will not be read without removing the window, while the front marking is visible, although I do not know how to read it.

Take a photo and paste it (a photo of the inscriptions from the glass) - we'll see.

It's about the year of manufacture of the glass, not the car ;)

I don't currently have any BMW at hand, but I've already tried different things and nothing matches the subtitles. I remember, for example, that one BMW had one dot only under the hardness markings, serial number, homologation number - just a dot without a number. Maybe there is something sewn in here... It would be good if other owners wrote about their dots - maybe we could deduce something.

On PW I gave you my table with a description of the windshield markings. We'll see if anything helps ;)

Thanks Zeimp for the table and willingness to help, but there is nothing about the years - especially in BMW, where there is no standard designation of the production date. windows. Also, the problem still remains unresolved and the topic is open.

To encourage some, I will post two photos from the BMW e46 and e90 windshields (I currently have these at the workshop ;)

I would like to add that someone does not confuse DOT (e.g. with tire marking), the DOT and CCC designation refers to the compliance of the produced windshield with the American and Chinese (PRC) standards, provided that the manufacturer has obtained confirmation of this compliance and the appropriate identification number. This applies to glass manufacturers around the world and is a condition for allowing the use of glass in vehicles admitted to traffic in these countries.

So, for example, until 2010. it looks like:
    ......4 - January - 2004
    .....3 - February - 2003
    ....4 - March - 2004
    ...2 - April - 2002
    ..5 - May - 2005
    .5 - June - 2005
    1...... - July - 20001
    7 ..... - August - 2007
    4 .... - September - 2004
    3 ... - October - 2003
    4.. - November - 2004
    9. - December - 2009
What will they mean after 2010? I don't know it yet, but if there are no dots and even one digit, then unfortunately, but it seems to me that it is impossible to read, unless by the manufacturer :D Regards.

Of course, despite the fact that the problem remains unsolved, Zeimb deserves thanks (I will repay you when I sit down at the computer, because something "helped" on the mobile does not enter.
I'm thinking, maybe here one dot means 2001, 2 dots mean 2002, etc., but it's just a guess - after all, these dots mean something and by analogy they definitely have something to do with the date of production of the glass.

I've only described to you as much as I know about it (plus the table on the PM). That's why I posted photos so that one of the users added the rest. Yes, so I'd love to know the rest :D

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around identifying the production year of BMW windshields, which lack standard markings for easy interpretation. Participants suggest that while BMW typically marks windshields with production dates, these markings can be obscured or non-standard. Some users propose checking the VIN for the vehicle's production year, while others discuss the possibility of deducing the glass production year from dot patterns or other markings. A user shared photos of BMW E46 and E90 windshields to aid in identification, but the consensus is that the issue remains unresolved, with no definitive method established for reading the production year from the glass itself.
