    Hello.

I searched the forum, but couldn't find a solution to my problem, so I'm assuming a new topic.

Well, I am the owner of an ASUS N53S laptop with NVIDIA GT550M graphics card and integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Windows 7).

I also bought a Samsung SyncMaster TA350 monitor and HDMI cable.

After connecting both of these devices ... well, nothing happens.
Of course, I set the image source from the HDMI input in the monitor, but I get "no connected devices". My laptop also does not care about the fact that I plugged it in.

I did some tests and here's what came out for me:

After connecting another laptop to the same monitor, everything works as it should -> so it's not the fault of either the cable or the monitor.

In turn, a few weeks ago I connected the Panasonic VIERA TV at a friend's place to my laptop (via a different HDMI cable) and everything also worked as it should. So it follows that it's not the laptop's fault.

Is it possible that some computers cannot connect to certain monitors?

I am asking for some tips if and how this problem can be solved, because I would love to be able to use the monitor (I bought it for ;) ).

Thank you in advance for your answer

Hello, after connecting the monitor, is it visible in the device manager?

Use the WINDOWS + P keyboard shortcut and use the projector only option

Unfortunately, Device Manager does not detect the monitor, and after using the "projector only" option, the "Unable to connect to the projector - no projector detected" window pops up.

I still remembered about one important issue, namely the fact that since the last time my laptop was properly connected to an external screen using HDMI (a few weeks ago at a friend's), my computer has installed some 1.5 billion updates (it turned out, that Windows Update was not working for me, and after fixing the problem, it automatically downloaded all possible updates).
Maybe some update botched the matter and now I can't connect to any monitors? (unfortunately, only in about 2 weeks I will be able to try to connect with some other than mentioned in the topic) ...

Hmm, it is possible that not all (?) Are installed. Are there any critical patches in the update service? If so, install them.

At the moment, Windows Update claims that Windows is up-to-date and no updates are available for this computer.

I suspected some problems with the graphics card drivers, however, neither restoring the driver for the Intel HD card (for NVIDIA the option to restore was not available) worked, nor installing the latest drivers from NVIDIA's website ...

if you have the option, go to a friend and connect to a monitor at his home and see if it works on the same cable, of course

    Added after 10 [minutes]:

I also had an idea that you would go where the chapter changes,
clicked on detect monitors to show the other one, not connected
and developed the screen positions and there he chose the output from the HDMI laptop or the GE gt550

I tried it - unfortunately it did not detect any other screen.

I think I will actually wait patiently for the possibility of connecting my laptop to another screen and then it will be possible to narrow down the group of suspects. For now, thank you for your advice and I will contact you as soon as I learn something new.

If the laptop is under warranty, it would be appropriate to use it - I am afraid that the fault may be related to the hardware in the graphics.
However, we are waiting for the test results on another monitor, because I would not like to be a "bad prophet".

    Welcome back.
It took a while, but I was finally able to run a test with another monitor.
The error in the laptop has been confirmed - after connecting to the same external screen at a friend, on which once (i.e. before installing the update) everything worked as it should, now there is no reaction from the screen or the laptop. As if the HDMI socket on my laptop ceased to exist.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around an ASUS N53S laptop that fails to detect a Samsung SyncMaster TA350 monitor via HDMI connection. The user confirmed that the monitor and HDMI cable are functional, as they worked with another laptop. The laptop previously connected to a Panasonic VIERA TV without issues. Suggestions included checking Device Manager for detection, using the Windows + P shortcut to switch display modes, and verifying graphics card drivers. Despite attempts to troubleshoot, including testing with another monitor, the laptop remains unresponsive to external displays, leading to concerns about potential hardware failure in the HDMI port or graphics card after recent Windows updates.
