    Hello
I have a driving license but unfortunately I cannot afford my own car: /
I asked my father who had his own car if I could drive his own car, my father said that it was like I had stolen his car and there was a penalty for it, and nobody would believe me that I was going with my father's permission (i.e. the police). He said that I must have some kind of consent or something like that on top of that, every time I go alone I have to have a new consent written from my father.
I studied law a long time ago, but I remember that the instructor from the center said that if I want to drive my parents' car, all I need is my driving license and the car's papers and its insurance, which of course is for my father in my case.
How is it actually? I know many people to whom parents give cars, but I have never heard that they would carry any parental consent, even one had a bump and nothing came for it, of course, except for the money spent on repairing the car and continues to drive.
I was looking for something on google on this subject and I don't even know how to enter it since yesterday I have been looking for nothing.
    Please help
    Regards

In my opinion, your dad defends himself by all possible means not to give you a car, in Poland, anyone can drive a car, provided that the vehicle is insured, has an inspection, and the driver is sober and has a driving license. The only thing he may be partially right about is that his insurance may not cover drivers under 25 years of age.

Yes, but I meant some legal article, something from the code or something like that for him to read it. As I enter the road traffic law and the documents required to drive the vehicle in google `` Unfortunately, there is no text that would say that I can drive a car other than my own without an owner: /

You can drive, the only problem may be the civil liability insurance agreement, if there was a provision in it that the car is not driven by a person under the age of 25 or, for example, with a driving license under the age of one year, then in the event of a collision / accident (knock on) there may be problems with the payment of compensation .

Okay, thanks for your help, I have to look for this record that you only need a OC driving license and a registration document to drive.

It would be different if the car was registered abroad. I went through this case myself when I was driving my brother's car, who has a registered car abroad. Fortunately, my brother was with me during the inspection.
As for the required consent, you do not need any document, only the owner must be aware that at this time the car is under your control (I am borrowing the car many times in the company, if it's not my friends, then my bosses, and somehow there was never a problem, although the control was not one).

Ok, everything is clear, now I'm just waiting for my father.
As for the description of karol_85 "I have a different offer for you, collect some money and talk to your dad, maybe he will give you a little extra and buy something of your own, maybe old but your own", you'd better write change father :D as for this car, after 1 is as old as me, i.e. 23 after 2 such scrap you did not see more with it, I did than my father drove for 3. as for these discounts, no need to worry father has insurance in Warta and there you have 60 discounts % as soon as you are over 30, you do not have to drive 6 years to have the 60% Father bought this insurance a year ago and from the beginning he had to pay for the third-party liability insurance of PLN 199 for half a year, i.e. PLN 400 per year.

And out of curiosity what kind of vehicle your father has that he doesn't want to lend you?
Maybe you should buy something of your own and not stress the old man? :D

There will be no problems. The insurance premium was calculated with a discount, because he declared that the car would not be driven by a person under 25 years of age. In the event of a collision, you have to take into account an additional payment to the civil liability.

I consider the topic resolved, everything has been explained, so we close.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the legal requirements for driving a parent's car with permission in Poland. The main concern is whether a written consent from the car owner is necessary, as the user's father believes it is required to avoid legal issues. Responses clarify that, under Polish law, a valid driving license, the vehicle's registration documents, and civil liability insurance are sufficient for driving a parent's car. However, insurance policies may have age restrictions that could affect coverage in case of an accident. The conversation also touches on the father's reluctance to lend the car, possibly due to concerns about the user's driving experience and the vehicle's condition.
