I searched the forum and found no information. What do you think about this engine. Is it worth it? I mean the failure rate. Apparently it's an engine from PSA.

I am the owner of this engine in the V50 - and all I did in it was replacing the alternator and cleaning the injectors [it does not serve it for a long time in the city]. The engine is PSA design. Reliable, proven design from the Ford Focus. I recommend this car. If you have any questions, I am here to help.

Thanks for the answer. What is the real burning? The car is supposed to be for my wife, it will commute to work every day. Not great distances, about 20 km a day.
The injections came from bad oil? Are they so delicate? Generally the most important combustion and failure rates. I looked at the prices of spare parts, it's not bad.
This engine is probably better known as HDI.
And another question do you have a DPF? Because there are versions with and without this unnecessary filter.
Nice car outside, inside and a decent price. I looked at gasoline engines, but this diesel one seems to me the most sensible.

Burning is a difficult question because if I put on "light" shoes, I manage to ride at the level of 6l / 100 on the road, but I rarely wear them :-) because such power that it's a pity not to chase these horses. As for the injections, it was my fault because in engines powered by common-rail you should not run on dregs from the tank, and I drove 40 km in reserve and sucked muck from the bottom of the tank. So it only needed washing. I rinsed the tank and so that there would be no problem in the future, I only use DIESEL PREMIUM fuels, mainly BP Diesel Ultimate. As for the name, the engine is known as TDCi 2.0D 136HP. There were factory versions with different engine software and reached 170HP, and 136HP was guaranteed. As for the filter, if the car is supposed to drive 20 km, I advise against buying a car with it on board. The upside is that the V50 from 2.0 does not need any other fluids to raise the combustion temperature as it already is, on the V50 with a 1.6D engine. Another plus on the 2.0D is the gearbox is already 6-speed, which reduces fuel consumption. For some, there is no tragedy. Although Volvo had the same suppliers as Ford, but because Volvo stands a shelf higher than its brother, parts with the Volva logo are of higher quality and are more durable, so it is not profitable to invest in replacements. It is worth finding a good mechanic and appearing at the reviews. In Wawa, where I currently live twice a year, some ASOs carry out maintenance campaigns at a promotional price of PLN 50.

I do not crush my wife so that she would smoke little :) . I looked at mobile.eu, unfortunately DPF is in most cars, but there are also those without. When it is time to switch from golf to something bigger, I think the V50 will be the favorite. Thanks for the help.

I think that when a friend will make his wife happy, there is no point in being guided by the presence of a DPF filter [you can cut it for a lot of money and remove it from the driver software]. I think the equipment is more important. V50 is my first car with cruise control and I know that when I change it, every next car must have it, as well as the radio control from the steering wheel. And what I would advise against, this factory navigation is controlled by a remote control, and the maps are expensive and not comparable to MapieMap or AutoMapa. The radios are also installed different in my car, it is STANDARD, but I am thinking of changing to the HIGH PERFORMANCE AUDIO version [I heard and how the audio in the car sounds good]

I have had this car for 7 years and unfortunately I changed all the topics of the old disla :) DPF has yet to be cut because it adds fuel to the oil, especially in winter. A lot depends on what routes are used. If short, the DPF can be heard.
The price in relation to the equipment is approx.

A golden shovel to you for excavating the 2012 topic, congratulations.

Topic summary

The Volvo V50 2.0 136HP engine, derived from PSA's design, is generally regarded as reliable, with owners reporting minimal issues such as alternator replacement and injector cleaning. The engine, also known as TDCi 2.0D, is praised for its performance and fuel efficiency, achieving around 6L/100km under optimal conditions. However, concerns about the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) arise, particularly for short commutes, as it can lead to increased fuel consumption and oil contamination. Owners recommend avoiding DPF-equipped models for daily short-distance driving. The engine's maintenance costs are considered reasonable, and the vehicle's overall value is appreciated, especially in terms of equipment and features.
