    hello
3 days ago I replaced 2 halogen bulbs in my bathroom with 50 watt ones.
previously I had 35 watt but it was always a bit too dark.
3 days it was working fine and after that the whole lighting system went down..
it's not the fuse as I checked, I have lights in the rest of the house as normal.
could the fact that I replaced 50 watt instead of 35 watt be the reason at all?
    how to fix this?
there are 3 bulbs altogether and it a normal UK 'string' system
I have no idea where to start with this.
    any advice much appreciated..!

Your bulbs was on 12VAC or 230VAC. If 12V you damege halogen transformer. Check the thermal fuse on it.

I think it's very possible it was 12V.
how expensive is to change the fuse on transformer? and can I do it myself?
    many thanks

If 12V there are two possibilities

yup. If it's not the fuse, probably the change in the bulb's voltage caused the problem.. some incompatibility.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around a user who replaced two 35W halogen bulbs in their bathroom with 50W bulbs, leading to a complete shutdown of the lighting system after three days. The user confirmed that the fuse was not the issue, as other lights in the house functioned normally. Responses suggest that the problem may stem from using 50W bulbs in a 12V system, potentially damaging the halogen transformer. Users advised checking the thermal fuse in the transformer and provided guidance on whether it can be replaced or if a new transformer is needed for higher wattage. Additional suggestions included inspecting wiring for damage or short circuits.
