    Hello!

I want to install a computer device at my friends that consumes about 200W of electricity. For billing, I would like to use a numerator like this:

Connecting Single-Phase Sub-Meter for Billing: Wiring, Grounding & Installation Queries Connecting Single-Phase Sub-Meter for Billing: Wiring, Grounding & Installation Queries

However, I would like to connect a plug to the L and N cable.

    My quick questions:

    1. It is enough that I connect the phase to L and zero to N, and where it is * I connect the cable to the computer device for which we want to settle?
    2. What about the ground wire (third)? I connect this one outside the meter?
    3. Do I have to somehow connect the ground wire (third) to the meter?
    4. Can I connect the meter via the above-mentioned contact plug?
    5. In case of reverse connection of the plug with such a meter, will the counter simply not work, - or if there is no protection, will it count down?
    6. Can the meter work horizontally - lying down, being screwed to the upper casing of the computer?

Thank you, now I am sure of the answers to all questions except the horizontal operation of the meter and some contraindications to using the plug as a connection to this meter :)

    1. Yes.
    2. Outside the counter.
    3. If there is no PE terminal, then no.
    4. Yes.
    5. L goes to the L terminal and N to the N terminal. If we reverse the plug, the counter will not work.
    6. The operating position symbol should be on the "white rectangle" on the front of the wattmeter where all markings are found.

    Where's the wattmeter here?
Where did the information come from that the meter with swapped L and N on the power supply will not work?
    What are these revelations?

elpapiotr Nobody mentioned the wattmeter. The meter of the consumed electricity is shown, which is the basis for settlements in all households. Who needs a wattmeter in this situation? I gave this "200W" as a total redundant.

Information that the counter will not work, probably because in civilized meters there is a latch (flag - flag) that blocks reverse rotation.

    It's my logic.

    Reprint mentioned.
And he drew a strange "schematic" of a 1-phase counter.
How is it supposed to work? If only he could mark entry-exit!

Buddy modrih, changing L from N (i.e. inverting the plug) does not change the direction of rotation of the dial, nor does it stop it.
On the other hand, this counter will not count correctly in the horizontal position (if the disc is able to start moving in such a position at all, this is due to, among others, the disc axle bearing system used in the counter).
It is very good that my colleague Elpapiotr quickly reacted to the nonsense written by his previous speaker.

Whenever I see questions about connecting POD meters, I cannot get over the impression that POD-just-meters is not available and the postman already has invoices in the bag. May I be wrong. :D

In this case, it is about the sub-meter. The problem and my queries have been resolved, so I'm closing the topic.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the installation of a single-phase sub-meter for billing purposes, specifically addressing wiring, grounding, and operational queries. Key points include the correct connection of phase (L) and neutral (N) wires, the handling of the ground wire, and the feasibility of using a plug for connection. It is confirmed that the ground wire should be connected outside the meter, and if the meter lacks a PE terminal, it does not need to be connected to the meter. Concerns about the meter's operation when the plug is reversed are addressed, indicating that the meter will not function if L and N are swapped, but it will not count down due to a protective mechanism in civilized meters. The discussion also touches on the orientation of the meter, noting that it may not work correctly in a horizontal position. The topic concludes with the author stating that their queries have been resolved.
