Hello. What oil to pour into VW Passat B6 from 2005 1.9TDI mileage 230 thousand.
I called the VW service and they said that they were pouring synthetics, even for cars with a mileage of 400,000. The question remains, which synthetics to choose?
A service visitor said that it must meet the VW 507 00 standard.
Castrol EDGE 5W-30 FST meets this standard (I have already bought this oil but haven't poured it yet. A friend from the store called his friend from the VW showroom and recommended this oil as well). Will he be good, what do you think? Any of you running on this oil? I will say right away that I do not know if my "belt" has a diesel particulate filter, but I read in one forum that this oil is also suitable for cars without a DPF filter (and with PDF).
Please tell me, did I choose the right oil?

He works at a VW Dealership so it's best to check what oil was poured into you last time. I usually use Mobila 5w-30 or Castrola at work, and this is your choice :P

Hello, motul specific 505.01 5w40 is poured into the TDi - it is an oil specially designed for these engines.

Now present the vw standards approving this oil and justifying your statement.
    I am waiting.

5w40 is an oil for TDI PD but b6 probably already has the 506.01 standard, i.e. longlife or 507, i.e. with DPF and the oil that meets this standard is 5w30 in the Motul specification, for example Motul Specific 504 00 507 00 5W30 or Motul 8100 X-clean + 5W30

you don't have a diesel particulate filter yet - thankfully ;) - as for the oil, if, for example, a semi-synthetic was poured in, you should not add a synthetic one. By the way, you've got the last good VW diesel :)

You can go ahead and pour it, for example after making a rinse or without it.

And everyone else that meets this specification, not just a motorcycle.

Good morning. I have a question. Since 2015 I have been using 5w30 oil. A year ago, the mechanic changed the oil in the Passat b6 2.0 TDI to 10w40 oil. Can you go back to 5w30 oil?

Topic summary

The discussion centers around suitable synthetic oil options for a 2005 VW Passat B6 1.9TDI with 230,000 miles. The user inquires about the appropriate oil, noting that VW service recommends synthetic oils even for high-mileage vehicles. Castrol EDGE 5W-30 FST is mentioned as a compliant option with the VW 507 00 standard. Responses suggest various alternatives, including Motul Specific 505.01 5W-40 and Motul Specific 504 00 507 00 5W30, which are also compliant with VW standards. It is confirmed that the vehicle likely does not have a diesel particulate filter (DPF), allowing for flexibility in oil choice. The user expresses gratitude for the advice and decides to proceed with the Castrol oil.
