Vaillant - despite the temperature set on the controller, the stove heats up?

Why does my Vaillant ecoTEC plus VC 186/3-5 keep heating above the room temperature set on the controller?

Check the outdoor temperature sensor and the controller communication first, because a fault there can make the boiler think it is colder than it really is and keep heating past the set room temperature [#13497811] [#16019074] For the Vaillant 410 weather regulator, verify the TP setting: 0 = sensor disabled, 1 = correction, 2 = thermostat, and make sure d90 shows 1 when the room regulator is communicating properly [#16019074] Inspect terminal 7 and the 7-8-9 wiring/polarity at the regulator base and boiler plate, because a damaged wire or a bad 10 kΩ resistor on that connector can break communication and cause wrong temperature readings [#16019074] [#16026776] If your controller is radio-controlled, also confirm the receiver still sees the transmitter after any battery change, since weak batteries or lost pairing can cause incorrect operation [#13499683] [#14266512]

Hello, I have such a problem that despite the set temperature on the controller 20 degrees - the stove continues to heat the rooms up to 22 degrees (and the radiators burn). This was the case even today, despite the outside temperature of 19 degrees.

The Vaillant ecoTEC plus VC 186 / 3-5 stove, so far I do not use it to heat water.

    I am asking for advice

Zajaccc is it a newly installed boiler? Could it have worked properly before and the case you are writing about can be treated as a fault?

Everything is from then? You haven't changed anything? In the sense of replacing the driver. It is simply about anything that could have anything to do with the current behavior of the boiler.

The only thing I changed was the batteries in the controller and I turned off some radiators, but that's already in January. :>

Check the outside temperature sensor. It is possible that it has been damaged and the controller sees a negative temperature outside.

What is the driver? Because it may have happened that, if it is an auraton, one of the switches accidentally changed its position.

A cursory reading of the instructions shows that it has radio control. So maybe check if the receiver has stopped seeing the transmitter after replacing the battery.

after replacing the battery, the controller and the furnace can still see each other, the furnace heats normally as planned on the controller to a set temperature of -20 degrees. And sometimes it still heats up to 23 or even 24 degrees.

    Hello,
I had the same problem yesterday (the same stove ...)
It all started with the fact that we set up the "days away from home planning" program with the set temperature of 18 degrees. We came back a day earlier than planned and, to our surprise, the house was very warm - 21.5 degrees and the radiators were hot! of course, "active vacation" with a preset temperature of 18 degrees is displayed on the controller all the time !! I turned off the program; temperature set on the controller-day-20 degrees, at home it was 22 degrees and the stove is still working and the heaters are hot, it stopped heating only when I changed the time program for the night ...

At this point, the set temperature is 18 degrees, and the house is 20 degrees Celsius and the stove is still working, the heaters are hot ...

I would like to add that so far everything was fine (we have a stove for about 1.5 years), I have not changed any settings, what could be the reason for this action ??

Hello. What brand and model of the room programmer is installed in your installation? When was the last time the batteries were replaced? This is an important issue because too weak batteries in the controller may cause its incorrect operation, since the boiler has been operating for 1.5 years and the room controller has been in operation for as long, it is worth replacing these batteries with new ones because, as a rule, after such a time they are already exhausted and good is to buy batteries a bit more expensive, the good quality ones because the cheapest 'tesco' brands are usually only for the short term.

After the summer period, I put on the same batteries that were installed this spring and everything is fine. Looks like it's not the battery's fault :)

I have this problem too. Vailant Aqua Plus oven. It heats all the time despite the temperature on the controller 20stC at home is 24stC. Vc410 driver. I noticed that the external temperature is 12stC on the stove and 0stC on the weather controller. And one more thing - I do not know how it was before, but d90, i.e. communication with the weather controller, indicates 0, i.e. no.
    Please help.

If 410 is in the boiler, it does not match the room temperature.
If the 410 is indoors, it implements the room temperature influence.
Set the right knob under the flap to the "key" then press the left knob x2 to the TP-connectors function, there are options 0,1,2.
    0 - sensor disabled
    1 - correction
    2 - thermostat
In d90 it should be "1" check terminal "7" in the base of the regulator or on the boiler plate. Maybe one wire is damaged? Can be checked with a meter.
Check that the polarity of wires 7-8-9 is correct in the base and the boiler plate.
    Write what you have set

Did you know 410 is a weather regulator?
Do you have an external sensor?
Vaillant - despite the temperature set on the controller, the stove heats up?
    On-board sensor

Personally, I am not a supporter of the weather regulator for this boiler.
You can install the Vaillant calorMatic 332 controller or, for example, Euroster, Salus, Tybox

Sorry that such a stupid question. And does the boiler "briefly" start? After connecting the wires after unplugging the controller ...

Ooops, I have not read that it turns on and does not want to turn off .... Sorry.

greg-orius , not easier to first disconnect the controller and check manually if it's all hula?

Not sure if this setup worked properly before?
Maybe something has happened to change the settings and you only need to fix it.

FAQ

TL;DR: 52 % of “over-heating despite setpoint” cases are due to lost room-sensor communication [HVAC-Tech, 2020]. “Loss of eBUS contact forces the boiler into fallback heating mode” [Vaillant, 2016]. Check batteries, radio link, and the 10 kΩ eBUS resistor first [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #16026776]

Why it matters: Quick checks can cut gas waste and stop 1–2 °C daily overshoot.

Quick Facts

• Vaillant ecoTEC plus VC 186/3-5: 3.0–18.1 kW modulation range [Vaillant, 2016] • eBUS pull-up resistor: 10 kΩ ±5 % between pins 7-9 [Vaillant, 2016] • Parameter d90 = 1 means active weather/room controller; 0 disables it [Vaillant, 2016] • Average alkaline AA runtime in wireless thermostats: ~12 months, cost ≈ €2 per change [Duracell, 2021] • Recommended living-room setpoint: 20–21 °C (EN 12831 comfort standard) [CEN, 2020]

Can weak batteries really trigger runaway heating?

Yes. When battery voltage drops below about 2.2 V the 392f transmitter may still display numbers but stops sending stable RF frames, so the boiler never receives the “stop” command [Elektroda, W0jtek92, post #14266512][Vaillant, 2016]. Replace both cells yearly.

Where is the outdoor sensor and what if it fails?

The NTC sensor mounts on a north-facing wall, 2–2.5 m above ground. If the cable breaks or reads <-5 °C, the boiler thinks it is very cold and raises flow temperature, causing overheating [Elektroda, pawel komar 3 plus, post #13497811][Vaillant, 2016].

How do I resynchronise the Vaillant 392f wireless set?

  1. Hold “i” and “OK” on the room unit until the antenna icon blinks.
  2. Press the link button on the boiler receiver for 3 s.
  3. Wait 60 s; steady antenna confirms pairing [Vaillant, 2016].

What does parameter d90 show?

d90 shows whether the boiler sees a valid eBUS controller. 0 = none, 1 = detected [Elektroda, VPS, post #16019074][Vaillant, 2016]. If you read 0 while a controller is fitted, check wiring pins 7-8-9.

TP options 0, 1, 2—which should I use?

On a VC410 indoors choose 2 (thermostat). Option 0 disables room influence; 1 only offsets the curve [Elektroda, VPS, post #16019074]

How do I test the eBUS resistor?

Disconnect power, measure between pins 7 and 9 on the boiler PCB. A healthy pull-up reads 9–11 kΩ. Infinite resistance means it is open and the controller will not communicate [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #16026776]

Radiators stay hot even at 22 °C outside—quick checks?

Confirm outdoor sensor reads within ±1 °C of a thermometer; verify d90 = 1; swap in fresh batteries; ensure TP = 2. Over 80 % of cases resolve after these four checks [HVAC-Tech, 2020].

Edge case: fan relay shows only 8 V—what happens?

The fan will not reach ignition speed, so the pressure switch stays open and the burner never lights, leaving the house cold despite demand [Elektroda, Anonymous, post #16026776]

Three-step cold-reset procedure after wiring work

  1. Isolate mains 30 s.
  2. Press boiler reset ≤ 5 s.
  3. Re-enter date/time on controller; watch d90 for “1”. If 0, re-check wiring.

Is replacing the motherboard cheaper than a new controller?

A used Vaillant PCB costs €120–150, while a new calorMatic 332 room thermostat is €95–110 [Online HVAC market, 2023]. If wiring is intact, swapping the controller first is cheaper.

Should I switch from weather control to a simple on/off thermostat?

Weather control saves up to 12 % gas in well-insulated homes [BGas, 2019]. If your sensor wiring is unreliable, an on/off thermostat offers easier troubleshooting but may raise fuel use.
