I have such an arrangement of windows and patio doors in my flat that I need to use one roller shutter measuring sz330 x wys235. I phoned a few companies to ask about the variety of roller shutters and motors, but didn't find out anything in particular. One salesman was factual and talked about chrome roller blinds, the space between the blinds insulating the motors with a 5 year guarantee.
I am a complete layman and would like to have a roller shutter that works well for as long as possible.
Please advise what I should look out for when buying it.
The blind is mainly to isolate the light on the west side of the flat and to cover the flat at night. I am leaving out the intelligent control of it for the moment. I would like it to be electrically controlled. I don't know if it's worth using an additional manual control in case of a motor breakdown or power failure.

    Hello

To begin with, tell me whether you want a roller shutter of this size as a single unit
or one roller shutter divided into, for example, three panels.
If it is to be this large, a thicker tube, a larger more powerful motor must be used, and larger profiles such as are used for roller shutters which in turn results in a large box.
The best solution would be to split it into three or two separate armours but in one box.
I don't know what the window layout is, how the tracks can be fitted
if you provide more data I can give you more hints.

@fraksipon also think about external awnings, I have recently seen presentations of such from Fakro on YouTube and have started to take an interest in the subject myself. Such awnings, thanks to the fact that they are outside, make it easier to keep out not only light but also excess heat. I have south-facing windows and even in this (average) summer it is sometimes hard to stand with the curtains drawn, the room becomes a sauna.

Yes, an awning shades somewhat from the sun but not to the same extent as a roller blind.
Roller shutter profiles filled with polyurethane foam are much more protective against the heat and, in addition, provide an additional barrier against cold air in winter.
They are simply more practical and can be used all year round.

Hmm, but the thing about awnings, from what I've read, is that they don't shade from the light - so that you can work in such a room, generally stay normally. I'm looking at these Fakro awnings myself right now, they're supposed to be a window cover, but they're supposed to protect from the heat, and all in all, I'm intrigued by the concept. :)

    reverence,

i recently had an Aluprof external roller shutter fitted with the simplest radio.
Dimension 1.80m x 2.50m (width x height). It works great. Window
terrace window on the west side. Insulates very well from the high temperature.
The temperature is now much lower.
I don't have an additional manual control. If there is a problem I will advise.

So is it worth it? And please tell me if this radio is a convenient solution? Because I'm interested in the Fakro models and to be honest I'm considering manual control - cheaper. When you were to adjust these blinds manually would it be a big inconvenience?

If it is to be ONE roller shutter of the size you wrote at the beginning then only with electric drive and radio control. Without the electric drive it will be very difficult to lift (the weight of the roller shutter!). And with radio control you don't need to run any cables to the roller shutter box apart from the 230V power supply, which is sometimes easy to get from the lamp above the balcony or terrace, if there is one. I've had this type of roller shutter for 7 or 8 years and I'm very happy with it. The battery-powered controller has three buttons: down, up and stop, with which you can stop the roller blind anywhere. Just make sure the roller shutter drive is matched to the weight of the roller shutter. In my case, the experts gave me a drive that was too weak at the beginning and after a few months it ended up breaking, but they changed it for a suitable one under the guarantee and it's OK.

It's worth paying extra for the radio. There is no comparison. The boon is that I can open the sliding door for myself, and accordingly close the roller shutter as I wish (full close, visible gaps, or half/half). I write this because, depending on the situation (TV or weather), I can close it accordingly. Manually, it's impossible. No convenience at all!

Fine, but without a radio the same thing is possible after all. :D All you have to do is move from the sofa. :)
