Hello, I have a problem, that the above shortcut does not work, but it works in combination ctrl + alt + letter. I want to go back to the simpler alt + letter combination.
I searched the forums but I found nothing with such a problem, it all comes down to changing the language to the programmer or basic shortcuts like ctrl + shift ...
I don't know how to change it, I think I pressed some random combination that blocks / replaces it.
eg while writing this post, clicking alt + c will bring up the "code:" encoding option on the forum. alt + s is the send subject ....

Users of some graphics cards had similar symptoms when their drivers overlapped combinations of Polish diacritics (eg [Alt] - [C]. Then it was enough to turn off this key combination in the graphics card driver and the basic shortcut [Alt] + [C] returned giving the character c. if my memory serves me, it concerned Ati cards. the second issue is setting the keyboard Polish programmer. it's already set the p0anelu in control. perhaps some combination of keys simply changed the keyboard layout.

You should get CTRL + SHIFT (but the ones on the right side of the keyboard - both right).
It is best to press CTRL, then (without releasing CTRL) SHIFT and release both. It should change.
Attention! preferably not in a given program, but for example on the desktop. In the program, for example, when you are typing something, e.g. in WORD, it will remember for a moment and then after exiting the program, it will remember the same again and you have to press the key combination again.
How it doesn't work (and it should :) , I haven't seen you have any function keys on these keys on this laptop, so it shouldn't block) then check in the system settings if you have a Polish programmer's keyboard.
The last option may still come in, some program working in the background blocked the CTRL + SHIFT shortcut, because it has a shortcut to "yourself" there, but it is rather very unlikely :)

This applies not to the driver, but to the ATI Catalyst Control Center software.

Well, the problem was solved and it was the synaptics driver which I had to completely uninstall and reinstall, and it works fine.

    Help for the problem:

Such advice for the future for others, if someone writes in the post that something does not work, do not provide the same solutions to the problem that have already been applied, writing down into 3 paragraphs ...

Thanks a lot, because the session on the back of the neck and without the basic keyboard shortcut of a human hits ...

    Best regards.

Topic summary

The user reported an issue with the keyboard shortcut for Polish characters, specifically that the ALT + letter combination was not functioning, while CTRL + ALT + letter worked. Suggestions included checking the ALT + SHIFT combination to change keyboard layouts, and addressing potential conflicts with graphics card drivers, particularly from ATI, which might interfere with keyboard shortcuts. It was also advised to ensure the Polish programmer keyboard layout was set correctly. Ultimately, the user resolved the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the Synaptics driver, restoring the functionality of the ALT + letter shortcut.
