Hello I am looking for an antenna for dwr-921. I recently bought this router from t-mobile with a 55gb package. I have about 500m to the nearest BTS not more. I live near Zabludowo, Podlaskie, Koźliki. The router shows that I have no LTE coverage, according to the map I am close to the signal and 3g I have about 55% signal, I would like to at least strengthen the signal because in the evening I reach 77% and download reaches 14 mbps and upload 4.5 mbps. The antenna would preferably be at a reasonable price so as not to overpay.

With T-Mobile, you only have 3G coverage. The NetWorks BTS in Laszki operates only on UMTS900 with HSPA+( up to 21.6Mbps). On UMTS900 both partners Orange and T-Mobile use a common band and speeds are not high, the network is sometimes overloaded. How far do you have to this BTS? Much better speeds can be achieved from the UMTS2100 NetWorks network where T-Mobile and Orange use their own bands in HSPA+DC technology( two carriers) which allows speeds up to 43.2Mbps. The nearest active BTS of T-Mobile with UMTS2100 in Zabludow , Zamiejska 1. You have about 5-6 km to it. You can try to connect to this BTS on a 2100MHz directional antenna, speeds on HSPA+DC generally higher, up to 30Mbps. They depend on the load on the BTS and the signal level. You can check on your phone under the BTS in Zabludow. Current coverage and speeds rather from UMTS900 and Laszki BTS. You need to decide whether you buy an antenna for 900MHz for UMTS900 but here the signal improvement may not translate into speed improvement at all or try with UMTS2100 from Zabludow on a 2100MHz panel antenna. Of course, after testing near it.

I have 2km to the BTS in Zabludow, and 5-6km to Laszki. Which would be more cost effective in your opinion? I play mostly FPS games and would need a better ping, but sometimes I download something.

And just by eye how much would the speed and signal change?

The gain of the antenna with a 10m long H155 cable will be about 11-12dBi( the rest will go to losses on the cable and connectors). Plus about 10dB from moving the signal point outside( you eliminate wall attenuation). Unfortunately but DWR-921 has poor signal diagnostics and it's hard to say how much it will be in %. As for speed it's hard to say. Do tests on a phone with HSPA+DC under the BTS then you will see how much you can expect with good signal parameters.

Aha, that is, it will be more or less 2x faster than what I have at the moment.

But at the moment it's hard to say whether you're connecting to UMTS2100 with HSPA+DC or UMTS900 with HSPA+ from Zabludowo. Only tests will allow you to find out well and of course there is no guarantee of speed, it's mobile internet and it changes depending on the load on the BTS.

Would it be possible to check which BTS' the router connects to without doing a test because I read that it is possible?

On DWR-921 there is no option to force a specific band. In addition, the UMTS2100 NetWorks BTS is unverified. The UMTS900 NetWorks BTS from Zabludowo has CID( eNB) 19095,19096 and 19097 LAC59607.

And moving the antennas with these standard antennas makes a difference, because when I turn towards Zabludowo the range jumps from 40% to 70%,and towards Laszki I have from 40% to 57%?

I forgot to write, when I turn on the router I have 12% coverage(3g) but only when I disconnect the antennas and screw them back in then the signal increases to 40-70% (sometimes you have to do it several times). Maybe the router is catching HSPA+DC coverage just that it is weak and when I disconnect the antennas it switches to HSPA+

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around finding an affordable external antenna for the D-Link DWR-921 LTE router to enhance 3G signal strength. The user, located near Zabludowo, Podlaskie, experiences limited LTE coverage and seeks to improve their 3G performance, which currently shows about 55% signal strength. Responses suggest that connecting to a nearby BTS (Base Transceiver Station) at Zamiejska Street, which operates on UMTS2100 with HSPA+DC technology, would yield better speeds compared to the current UMTS900 connection. Recommendations include using a directional antenna for 2100MHz to potentially double the current speeds. The discussion also touches on the challenges of determining which BTS the router connects to and the impact of antenna positioning on signal strength.
