    Hello
I have a question, is it possible to sort the following alphabetically?
the fragment below is just an example - the point is that we have numeric bullets followed by sub-items.
now I would like to number them alphabetically so that the sections remain with the main numbering :(

    1. Social contract according to Hobbes:
It is concluded because of fear for your own life
Is the establishment of a state organization
    2. 'Second sailing' means:
    Metaphor from Plato's philosophy
A way to reach extrasensory reality
    3. Kant's philosophical interests were marked by the questions:
    What can they expect?
    What can i know
    What should i do?
    4. The word 'sophist':
It means the same as "obliging"
Refers to a group of teachers in ancient Greece
    5. Saint Tomasz thought that:
Reason is a mercenary of faith
The task of philosophy is to know God
    6. Impressions and ideas according to Hume "
They differ in the degree of strength and food
They are the foundation of human knowledge

Copy to Excel, manually merge lines with subpoints (unfortunately I have no other idea for this), sort as you like, number as you like, paste back into Word.

There is also sorting in Word, but it would also be necessary to "prepare" the text (divide it into paragraphs and merge it properly).

In the setting like in the picture, after selecting the text sets alphabetically each paragraph ( each! ) according to the alphabet from A to Z (ascending), How other settings work (there are a lot of them there) I do not know, I have never used it. I also don't know how it works gdu at the beginning of the paragraph is a number.

He goes to do it, format the text with this tool, but it's a lot of work in a way that I know and with the conditions you want. For now, I do not know another way to use this tool to meet the conditions you expect and there was less work and "clicking". There are certainly some Users on the forum who can do something else, so that it is simpler and less "clicking".
Example (I don't know if that was the case):

And yet there is an option without manual merging, it was enough to sleep.
In short - replace paragraph characters with a string, replace 2-digit numbers with 1-digit numbers, replace strings with a digit, dot, space with a paragraph mark. Paste into Excel, sort (or in Word if possible), add numbering. Replace the previous string with a paragraph character. Finished.

It can do this, but according to the author's assumption, each main point (which is as a paragraph and then subsequent paragraphs as subpoints) subpoints (as the author writes) would have to sort first in each paragraph and then each main point (already sorted subpoints ) merge into one paragraph and sort those paragraphs again. Then divide each paragraph (main point) again into the said "main point" and the points appearing in it. So works a lot and it's very easy to make a mistake.

After all, he says that he already has subsections and that they are to remain.

He writes so, but he must do it as each "main point" separately as one paragraph. For example, if it has 10 main points, each point must be merged separately to form one paragraph from it, i.e. there must be 10 paragraphs in the entire document to sort well, then each of these (after sorting) 10 paragraphs must again admire each separately on your paragraphs / points you can't do it "with one click because in the whole document there would be only one paragraph and there would be nothing to sort. Well, unless I'm wrong, I didn't understand how you did it.
Ten paragraphs are a "pimple", but how are there 100 out of the entire document? After all, there is something to "click" to merge and second to divide back into subsections ....

Well, I'm just trying, I don't know how to deal with it:

I don't know how to take these "strings", I ask because I would like to learn something too
I do not know what to put in the exchange

It works, but with such changes and these changes can sometimes be a small problem. If there are any numbers or numbers in the text that are not related to numbering but with the content of the text (e.g. date), then these numbers can also change and mislead.

Only if the text will end with a dot and a space. Then you come up with another option, you already have tips so you should know how. At the same time, you always have to think at least a minimum, there is no top-down method for everything.

That's right, but there may be different situations in the text, even the one you gave, so when using this "trick", you need to be careful and know the layout and formatting of the document, and make sure that the appropriate options are selected :D :D

Here you have step by step. Write what you don't understand.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around sorting text in Microsoft Word alphabetically while maintaining the structure of numeric bullets and sub-items. Users suggest various methods, including manually merging lines and using Excel for sorting. One effective approach involves replacing paragraph characters and numbers, sorting the text, and then reformatting it back into Word. However, caution is advised as unintended changes may occur if the text contains unrelated numbers. The need for a step-by-step guide is expressed, highlighting the complexity of the task.
