    Hello,
As I have recently been very irritated by the speed of internet in my village (only available with orange about 2Mb / s, LTE can be forgotten because of the very poor range) I am thinking about building an FTTH network. To begin with, I will say that two fiber optic internet companies nearby don't want to get to my village very much. The problem is that the city and the last point of their light guide have been around 1.8km from the beginning of the village. We are separated by a forest and a lack of poles so you would have to let everything go in the ground and they do not want to do it too much for this moment. They said maybe in a year, maybe in two ... because it costs about PLN 1 million ???? and for now they are doing everything on poles and do not want to go to the ground.
My first question is whether this amount is real or did they just say that?
Generally, the village has a length of 2km, about 100 buildings +/-. The forest dividing the village and the city, as I wrote also about 2km. A distribution point somewhere in the middle of the village. The whole village is general as if a street plus a dozen or so buildings on the other. Implementation of the network in the countryside by poles.
Another question is whether, for example, going to connect to their network behind the forest or do you have to take as a source directly from some headquarters or something like that, because this probably around 30km? The offer for companies has e.g. 1gbps symmetry.
There would be about 20 houses to connect with at the beginning. By design, already doing this, plus in the future telephone and TV.
What would be the approximate costs of such a thing if I commissioned the company and of course myself?
In the subject of fiber optics I'm not yet familiar, but I'm serious about it, so I want to know the costs.

In my opinion, the game is not worth the candle.
    1. First of all, it is the organization of some unit that will take care of it (company or association), determination of the budget and willing persons for this investment and its financing. Such a business plan.

    2. Bureaucracy, i.e. arranging permits from the owners of the land through which you want to run the optical fiber, permission to suspend the optical fibers from the owner of the poles in the village, carrying out the project and selecting a contractor plus signing the contract.

    3. Getting the right connection speed for your investment plus some stock (it would be good to get along with this local provider). To be competitive, this is a minimum of 50/10 Mb / s per head. And really think about TV and VoIP as additional services.

    4. Implementation of the investment and arrangement of the company that will deal with the new connections plus service.

    That is, in a nutshell.

For me it would not be a problem to set up a business or make a business plan.
As for the second point, only the forest section would be a problem. You would need permission from either the LP or the municipality or the provincial office. I talked initially with energy companies about the poles and they said that there would be no problems when it comes to suspended fiber optics on their poles, they only needed a project that would have a pole load or something like that ...
Initially I knew, but as I say it is more or less the cost of it all. After some time I would generally like to take care of all possible matters, plus of course some professionals. I know computer networks and systems very well, however, the light is something new that I personally didn't have to feed.

If such an investment is able to pay back in 10-15 or 20 years, it is worth investing because really Mb / s is now laugh.

Indicative question how much such a thing can cost because the cable itself and the lease of poles or the equipment itself is not very expensive. Is this 1 million is the actual amount or someone exaggerated 10 times with such an amount. For me, investing for example 200-300 thousand would not be a problem because I can say such an amount could be returned with the current amounts but a million would be a problem.

I'm supposed to throw you off your hat, how much will it cost without knowing the details? I do not know and without making an estimate along with the project and then finding a contractor, no one will answer it unequivocally. The costs may range from 300-400 thousand. up depending on the terrain.
As I said, the investment is unprofitable for such a group of farms unless you find some funding.
