    Hello.
I have a problem with a 500 GB WDC WD500BPVT HDD. When changing the password from the previous one, I set the password "1" so that I could not write the long password I had previously set up every time. To my surprise, when restarting the computer it turned out that the password is incorrect. Is there any way to determine what the current password is? Hard disk formatting is at stake because I don't have any important data there. I know that twmat has been discussed many times but I have not found the answer. I will add that my password key is 74189076. Regards and hope for help.

It seems like Bios gave you a random password if you gave the type "1" too short. If you have another computer, you can use the HDD Unlock Wizard. You connect a disk and this program is able to remove the password from the disk.

I need to connect this disk to another usb? I read that the adapter has problems detecting the disk.

Do not connect it to your computer normally via a sata connector. The computer should detect the additional disk.

Unfortunately, I only have one more laptop. Both laptops have only one SATA connector. I tried to replace the disk in a second laptop, unfortunately the same problem occurs. Would it be a good idea to install windows on an external disk, start the operating system from this disk and then run the above program?

You can do it, but it's a bit of a job. Do you have a sata to usb adapter? Then when you connect the disk via usb it will be detected as a data carrier and then the program should also detect it

I don't have an adapter. After that I read that it doesn't always detect the disk. I will try to do as I wrote earlier. I'll let you know how it went.

You can still connect 2 laptops to each other or a desktop with a laptop using a USB or Ethernet cable. From what I associate, this program also has the option of detecting a disk

After entering the wrong password 3 times, he asked for the password for the key.

On this page I have generated a password for my key. The password status in Bios has been changed to Frozen. Unfortunately, windows did not start, but the intalator could format the disk. I'm starting with the new windows installation. I will let you know if everything works correctly and the installation is finished. I will add that earlier the installer showed a message that I do not have permission to format the disk.

Strange that Windows did not start immediately because I can honestly say that if the password is frozen then the system should start. Now you will definitely be able to format because the password is frozen. At first you couldn't avoid it because the password bothered

Everything works as it should. Is it possible for a password that is frozen to be activated without a default setting in Bios or is it rather not possible?

It shouldn't be activated by itself. I'm glad everything works.
