Can you see the touchpad in the device manager?

On some laptops, especially the newer ones, the touchpad does not work under W7, this may be the case here.

Under "Mouse and other pointing devices" there is only HID compatible mouse, there is no Touchpad and nothing is lit in yellow.

Do you have a USB mouse connected? If not, this HID is a touchpad.

Does the laptop have any buttons to enable the touchpad?

The touchpad will not work under W7, the forum is full of threads for this model.

You gave a model with an error in the subject and it confused me! ASUS R540L is the correct designation.
