Basically, there is no reliable coil test at home. In the past - with contact ignition systems - the resistance could be measured and compared with the reference one which was given by the manufacturers (eg Tecumseh).
At home, it is necessary to check one by one: a candle, a candle pipe (if it is dismountable), an ignition switch cable and its attachment to the coil and the circuit breaker itself and its possible massaging. Sometimes the cable from the switch will fall, and sometimes it is enough to pull the cable that activates the switch and the brake. Keep trying. If these checks have no effect, the coil will remain in place.
