I have 20 ares to mow on uneven terrain and I do not know what drive will be better rear or front, the grass will be caught in the basket. Power is 6-7 HP.

I would choose the back. When filling the basket, the pressure on the drive axle increases. I also have uneven terrain and sometimes with a full basket the front wheels go up.

Rear - I thought so too, but there are also 3 wheels in front, one wheel is probably better for uneven terrain. What do you say....

I have not dealt with three-wheeled mowers. When I was buying the current one, I chose the one with large wheels.

I have both types of drive, i.e. 4 wheel drive and rear and front drive. In fact, the rear drive has less slip, especially when the basket is loaded, compared to the front drive. However, for me, mowing a plot of irregular shape is more convenient with a mower with front drive because with obstacles and tight turns, I do not have to turn the drive on and off, I just gently lift the wheels and then lower it further driving.
This is just a great thing for me, of course if someone has a large plot of regular shape, it does not matter that much.

    Welcome.

I had a similar dilemma and I solved it by investing in the MTD tractor and now I have mowing comfort.

Gardeners say that a tractor should be bought when you have more than 6-7 ares to mow, and you have 20.

I bought a rear wheel drive mower with large wheels.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around choosing between rear and front drive mowers for mowing 20 ares of uneven terrain with a power requirement of 6-7 HP. Participants suggest that rear drive mowers are preferable due to reduced slip when the grass basket is full, while front drive mowers offer better maneuverability around obstacles. One user mentions their experience with both types, highlighting the convenience of front drive for irregularly shaped plots. Additionally, a recommendation is made for investing in an MTD tractor for enhanced mowing comfort, especially for larger areas. The consensus leans towards rear drive for stability, but front drive is noted for its agility in tight spaces.
