I'm looking to buy a petrol lawn mower to mow a fairly large lawn. I was looking for something over 50 cm wide, with a drive and a rather powerful motor.

3 different models with 3 different engines caught my eye. I was set on buying NAC, but the salesman in the store knocked me off, saying that their engines are trash.

So the question is - which of the following "kits" would you recommend investing in? All prices are similar, +/- PLN 200.

    - NAC with NAC engine (model: LS56-196-JR)
    - NAC with Briggs & Stratton engine (model: LS1166-50675EXi)
    - Favorite with Loncin engine (model: SHC56N224L)
    - something else?

There isn't much on the internet about it. There are only ratings of specific models, and opinions about engine manufacturers or entire mowers are several years old.

    Thanks in advance for advice!

Out of those you indicated, only the Favorite deserves some attention. It's not perfect, but better than NACs

Thanks, @wojtek1234321 ! Your opinion is consistent with what the seller told me.

In addition to Favorite, can you recommend a company / model with a mowing width > 50 cm and a price below PLN 1,500? I've heard a lot of good opinions about Hondas, but I admit that I don't see them too much in stores or on Allegro and I wonder what it means.

Honda yes, but it's not in the price range as the examples presented. Here's an example of a Honda with the mowing width you want and see the price.

I do not know what budget you have for a mower, only the examples you provide are suggested.
    And something else?
I would bet on Oleo Mac GV 53 TK ALLROAD 4.
    Something like this.

Oleomac is also not ideal, the World GRL530S mower will be better and more durable

I have already purchased Favorite SHC56N224L. From the description, it is not much different from the World GRL530S - the same engine (in different versions) and GT drive, but it is 56 cm wide (compared to 53 cm). Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

Unfortunately, after about 2 hours of mowing, I had my first failure. One of the drive wheels is locked. I didn't want to take the whole mower under warranty because of this. I took the wheel off and it turned out that the washer securing the drive sprocket had fallen out. It must have been fitted wrong at the factory. After falling out, it was ground by the gears, slightly damaging the plastic ones on the side of the wheel. Replacing the washer with a new one solved the problem, but a little distaste remained.

One more curiosity. The mower is advertised as a solid product of a Polish company. But the owner's manual says "Made in PRC".

And there will be many more "accidents". All these Favorites, Worlds, NACs and other products of this type are made "on one hoof". Drives are practically the same for all, "marked" as GT, i.e. "General Transmission". Only the name of the mowers is different and different painting and all "stickers" and "cheesy" plastic gadgets, such as a "drink shelf", which is practically not needed for anything. Each mower is almost identical and manufactured by "tiny hands" from the east...
But I bought Oleo-mac two years ago, the same type as I indicated in this thread and the manufacturer is marked "Made in Italy". I have several services nearby, almost all parts for the drive and tow truck are available (some on request in the service).

Here, I would not offend Worlda so much because certainly this Chinese mower is much better than your supposedly Italian Olomac, Nac is known trash and the favorite is a bit lower than World and closer to Oleo if the quality is not the same, I watched a lot of mowers and even those with known names on S ... or H ... should not stand next to this Chinese World, but they look nicer, as to the parts of World, they are and will be, I think that some old model is from 15 years ago you can not buy links but it's not a problem,

Does anyone have a Nac LS56-196L-JR2 petrol mower with front swivel wheels? How is she doing? I'm also thinking about the Favorite SHD56N224L. I am asking for opinions of users of both mowers. Both of these mowers have a 56 cm blade, Loncina engines and I'm wondering which one to choose. I like the front swivel wheels in Nac, but Faworyt has GT gears with a differential gear again. What is it like to use and maneuver these mowers?

@Siwy206s1 I can say something about the SHD56N224L after a year of use. Apart from the described failure (a problem with the washer holding the drive wheel), I had no problems for a year. And I didn't save the mower at all - it happened to choke the engine on very high grass or even stop it once after "mowing" a stone. Despite these adventures, the whole thing works flawlessly. The engine start system (I don't remember the name - easy-start or something like that) also deserves praise. Even when the mower is in the garage for several weeks, it always starts on the first pull of the cord. I am personally very pleased with it.

As for the differential, there is nothing of the sort in this drive. Even in the manual they say that:

    Quote:
Use the drive only on straight sections, and be sure to turn it off when cornering, because the mowers do not have a differential gear and it can damage the drive.

I bought a Nac LS 50 575 HS ES mower 4 years ago and I would advise anyone against this company, because the first major breakdown and the mower is to be thrown away. The reason is trivial - there are no parts for it. The mower looks almost new as I own a ride-on mower in addition to it, so it hasn't been worked on too much. The FIRST major stone damaged the magnetic wheel and this is nowhere to be bought. I strongly advise against Nac.

The company sells a lot of different models, I've had 3 in my life and had no major problems. NAC are well regarded for their performance, ease of use and affordability, despite some minor drawbacks like noise and basket life. I've owned one Nac mower for 10 years, with servicing and minor repairs it has lasted a long time, also a trimmer and a saw for over 6 years, bought for 1/3 the price of a Husqvarna or Stihl, and they were unbreakable. You have to use the equipment skilfully, not throw it around, and it will last for years. I think it's just that people were unlucky with selected models and something went wrong. And they all manufacture in China, while NAC is at least a Polish brand. I personally recommend.

Hello, I have a problem with my lawn mower and when it pulls the drive it does not reverse after disengaging, what could be the cause? Without the belt on, nothing like that happened in the drive mechanism that only works when you pull the belt upwards.... maybe someone had the same experience?

FAQ

TL;DR: After 1 year of use, Favorite SHD56N224L owners report first‑pull starts; "Use the drive only on straight sections." We compare 56 cm deck mowers from NAC, Favorite, World, and Oleo‑Mac, plus fixes for drive and parts issues. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #19389698]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps budget‑focused buyers choosing >50 cm petrol mowers and owners troubleshooting GT self‑propelled drives.

Quick Facts

NAC LS56-196-JR vs LS1166-50675EXi vs Favorite SHC/SHD56N224L — which to choose?

Forum verdict favored Favorite among those choices. As one expert put it, "only the Favorite deserves some attention." If you’re set on a sub‑premium mower with >50 cm width, the community tilt was toward Favorite over the NAC combinations at similar pricing. This reflects hands‑on opinions rather than lab testing, but aligns with multiple buyers’ shortlists. Always check local parts and service before purchase to avoid downtime later. [Elektroda, wojtek1234321, post #18616916]

Are Honda walk‑behind mowers in the
No. A forum advisor confirmed Honda sits outside the example price range discussed here. They linked a 53–56 cm class Honda model to show the higher pricing tier. If you’re shopping under ~PLN 1,500, you’ll usually compare NAC, Favorite, World, or similar brands instead. Consider dealer support and parts availability as part of total ownership cost. [Elektroda, wojtek1234321, post #18617160]

Is Oleo‑Mac GV 53 TK ALLROAD 4 a solid alternative pick?

Yes. It was explicitly recommended as an alternative in this discussion. The suggestion came up when buyers sought a durable, self‑propelled, >50 cm mower without entering the premium Honda price tier. Check local servicing and spares before purchase to ensure long‑term support. Blade width is 53 cm, which still covers large lawns efficiently. [Elektroda, wojtek1234321, post #18617160]

How does World GRL530S compare on durability?

One contributor stated the World GRL530S would be better and more durable than the referenced Oleo‑Mac option. This reflects personal service and field impressions, not standardized testing. If durability is your priority, shortlist the World GRL530S and verify after‑sales parts and service near you. Test drive speed and handle ergonomics if possible. [Elektroda, zagorski-tomasz, post #18617719]

What early failure should I watch for on Favorite SHC56N224L?

A user reported the drive sprocket’s retaining washer came off within about 2 hours, locking one wheel. The loose washer was chewed by gears and scuffed the wheel’s plastic gear. Replacing the washer solved it. Inspect axle clips/retainers on day one to prevent repeat damage. This is an edge case but worth a pre‑mow check. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #18633335]

Does Favorite SHD56N224L have a differential in the drive?

No. The manual requires straight‑line use with the drive engaged, and turning only with the drive off. “Use the drive only on straight sections.” Forcing turns under power strains the gearbox and wheel gears. This behavior is typical for GT‑style single‑axis drives. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #19389698]

How does the Favorite SHD56N224L start after storage?

An owner notes reliable first‑pull starts even after several weeks in a garage. After one year of use, they remained very satisfied with starting and overall function. Use fresh fuel and keep the air filter clean for consistent starts. “Easy‑start” style systems help reduce pull effort. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #19389698]

Are these self‑propelled mowers fast?

One owner summary: everything works fine, but the mower goes slowly. Many GT gearboxes favor steady walking pace to maintain cut quality and traction. If speed matters, test a unit or look for multi‑speed drives. Verify cable adjustment, as overtension can also affect feel. [Elektroda, franas1, post #19565202]

Why do some users advise against NAC mowers?

Parts availability can be a problem for certain NAC models. One owner couldn’t source a replacement magnetic flywheel after a stone strike, effectively scrapping a lightly used mower four years in. Verify spares for your exact model before buying. [Elektroda, bkowalczewska150, post #21086522]

Are NAC mowers reliable if maintained well?

Another user reports owning three NAC machines with no major issues, including a mower lasting 10 years with servicing. They praised performance and value versus premium brands. “You have to use the equipment skillfully, and it will last for years.” Maintenance and careful operation matter greatly. [Elektroda, greenjohnny, post #21172757]

Are these ‘Polish’ mowers actually made in China?

One Favorite owner found the manual states “Made in PRC,” despite local branding. This is common in the segment, where many parts and assemblies come from Chinese factories. Focus on dealer network and parts access more than the label alone. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #18633335]

Do these brands share the same drive components (GT)?

A technician‑level poster noted many Favorites, Worlds, and NACs use similar GT gearboxes. “Drives are practically the same for all.” Cosmetic differences aside, internals and service parts often overlap. This can simplify sourcing generic GT parts when brand‑specific spares are delayed. [Elektroda, wojtek1234321, post #18633648]

Do NAC LS56-196L-JR2 and Favorite SHD56N224L both use Loncin engines?

Yes, the shopper comparing both highlighted Loncin engines in each, alongside 56 cm blades. Engine families can differ by carburetion or trim, but the Loncin base aligns. Check model codes for exact displacement and spec. [Elektroda, Siwy206s1, post #19373718]

Is World GRL530S similar to Favorite SHC56N224L under the hood?

An owner observed they share the same engine family in different versions, plus GT drive. The key difference noted was width: 53 cm for World versus 56 cm for Favorite. That extra width cuts large lawns faster, given sufficient engine torque. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #18633335]

How should I maneuver a mower with front swivel wheels?

Swivel fronts help steering, but disengage the drive before turning because there’s no differential. The manual guidance is explicit: turn only with the drive off to protect the transmission and wheel gears. Keep the front casters clean for smooth pivoting. [Elektroda, sowiq, post #19389698]

Self‑propelled won’t roll backward after disengaging the drive — how do I fix it?

Likely causes: tight cable/belt not fully releasing, jammed wheel ratchets, or debris in the drive. Try this:
  1. Slack the drive cable per spec; confirm the return spring fully relaxes.
  2. Pull wheels; clean and lube pawls/ratchets and hubs.
  3. Refit belt correctly; verify tensioner fully clears the pulley when released. If it still binds, inspect gearbox bushings and pinion wear. [Briggs & Stratton: Self-Propelled Mower Won’t Roll Backwards]
