Hello. I would like to replace the V-belt in a Golf 3 1.4 petrol engine 1997. Most likely there is a self-tensioner, so the belt can be cut to remove it. And the question: how to install a new one. Do you need to bend or loosen something? Please give me some hints for which .

First question - what for? Do you see this bar is broken? You have to worry more about the timing belt, because the failure of this belt is a failure of the engine, while the failure of the multi-ribbed belt does not end with anything serious, or lack of charging.

The question is why to participate if you don't know about it? A damaged PK belt can also slip under the timing.
3.1.11. Don't post messages that add nothing to the discussion. They are misleading, dangerous or do not solve the user's problem.

Wrench 15 on the tensioner roller bolt and pull it as if you were tightening it, only with feeling because it is easy to break.

Specifically as the micro belt begins to "unwind" and winds up under the crankshaft pulley. The timing will skip and the pistons will meet the valves.

Exactly. It is enough to "spin" to the stop because more does not make sense.

Maybe I will add, because I had adventures with a multi-ribbed belt, as well as my friends, that more often the cause of such a failure is seizure or large slack on the tensioner roller than the belt itself.

Now I see, no one is commenting anymore. My previous post was meant to comment sofi666 why was he thinking of replacing the belt?
I will write this - when you try to replace it, it is better to check the condition of the tensioner, because it may soon turn out that the belt is replaced, but the tensioner will make the new belt "live" for a short time.
