    Hi,
I wanted to earn some extra electric opening and closing the tailgate. I thought that this could be done by replacing the current gas cylinders with electric ones. Has anyone tried to do something like this before? Which actuators would you recommend?

at least write what kind of car it is. If the mechanics allow, I see no contraindications to do so

Well, I would try to do that. But which actuators to look for? What do you need to enter in google?

I have not seen such a thin / slender actuator yet, so that it can fit instead of a gas support, so let go of such ideas.

There are interesting hydraulic cylinders with an electric pump in convertibles.
I used devices from the convertible to lift the engine in the boat.

If a colleague of m. Birut wants to do, as they have new cars, that the trunk opens completely and closes at the push of a button, it will rather be difficult because these actuators are much wider and larger than standard gas cylinders and maybe a problem with their arrangement in the gutter .

That is why I am looking for actuators used in machines / automation that are small. I hope they are :)

The actuator is one of many details. You still need to change the lock to an automatic machine, preferably with the flap tightening, control associated with the alarm, some dynx for emergency opening. Possible to make, but unfortunately not easy. The actuator can be hidden anywhere and the drive can be moved with a Bowden rod, a popular bicycle rope.

As you can see in the video, something like this is possible.

Hello, did your colleague manage to replace these actuators with electric ones, or rather resignation?

Scabbard in which car you install.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the feasibility of replacing gas cylinders with electric actuators for tailgate automation. Participants emphasize the importance of knowing the specific vehicle model, as the mechanics may vary. Recommendations include searching for 12V electric actuators, although concerns are raised about the size and fit of these actuators compared to standard gas supports. Some users mention the use of hydraulic cylinders with electric pumps from convertibles as a potential solution. The conversation also highlights the need for additional components such as automatic locks and control systems for a complete installation. Brands like Volvo and BMW are noted for having electric actuators in their models.
