    Hello,

I came across the video below. Does covering the floor covering with MDF or OSB chipboard make sense if they are not materials with good heat permeability?

In my opinion, they are suitable for this, otherwise it would be possible to build houses from such panels and they would be very economical.
However, as for the panels on them, I have mixed feelings, because I have panels on the floor and they have warped - the edges are long upwards.

The flooring under the panels will not work, wood is an insulator and additionally they are placed on foam, you will also have Danube waves :) from distortion.

So where did the idea for a video about dry underfloor heating under the panels come from?

The panel is not such a perfect heat insulator, the foams for the floor covering are special. The panels are probably also those that do not warp. For me, the floor heating heats up despite the panels, but apparently they are inappropriate and slightly warped.

I was looking at the apartment and came across such a floor covering:

Underfloor Heating: MDF/OSB Chipboard Effects on Heat Permeability & Efficiency

The apartment in the attic, so from the ceiling, it looks like this:
    1.stryopo
    2. foil
    3. pipes flooded with concrete about 2-3 cm
    4. mdf disc
    5. foam
    6th panel

    Will the heating work?

No, it will only heat and warp the panels, not the room :)

    Thank you for your help.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the effectiveness of using MDF or OSB chipboard as a covering for underfloor heating systems. Participants express concerns about the heat permeability of these materials, noting that wood acts as an insulator and can lead to warping when exposed to heat. One user questions the rationale behind a video promoting dry underfloor heating with such materials, while others confirm that the combination of MDF or OSB with foam insulation may hinder the heating efficiency, potentially causing the panels to warp without adequately heating the room. The consensus suggests that these materials are not suitable for optimal heat transfer in underfloor heating applications.
