After replacing the power steering module, an error entered - VIN mismatch. What steps to take and what device to deal with the problem? Rather, it is not an easy topic, I called some long boots.

    Have you tried opcom?
You will probably need a PIN.

In most modules in this car there is wine stored when you enter the module, you should have the option of changing it, adding it, from what I remember there is also an option where it gets the wine from another driver, yes the matching option, the opcom do not know if it will work, unfortunately, probably only mdi or you can try or any of the universal devices have the option to change wines in the module, e.g. autocom

Opcom has no programming options in this module, what's more, no measuring blocks! Universal testers also can't.

From what I can see in autocom there is an option to add support and more.

And which opcom version did you check?

If there are such problems, it can rip soft from the old one on the table and upload it to the new one. ?

None of the devices I know do this, and no PINs give anything here.

Opel has a component protection option.
To enter a new VIN, the component should be logged out. Don`t move without it. From what I remember, entering a new VIN several times without logging out causes the device to be blocked.

I`m 99% sure that SPS will sort this out. The same principle as when replacing the blind spot sensors in the Insignia.

Possible to try using SPS but not programming - configuration for EPS.
But sometimes it is not possible to change VIN by command.
    EPS not uses pin code.
So the best thing is Ioterminal cause it works direct with eeprom. But be informed VIN is written twice and every one has independent CS.

Hi, I have a problem after replacing the Astra J hitch module (the module also engulfs the rear lights I think). The reverse and fog lights in the trailer are on all the time. There is diagnostics for it but no errors. It does not respond to the output test. Same on the two 2nd hand modules. Anyone know if this could be a CS and what could be used to fix it. Inside the burnt module I did not see any eeprom bone because I thought maybe I would flip the contents. But unfortunately.

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around the issue of a VIN mismatch error encountered after replacing the power steering module in an Opel Astra J 2010. Users suggest various diagnostic tools and methods to resolve the issue, including the use of Opcom, Autocom, and SPS (Service Programming System). It is noted that Opcom lacks programming options for this module, while Autocom may allow for adding support. The importance of logging out the component before entering a new VIN is emphasized to avoid device blocking. Some users recommend using Ioterminal for direct EEPROM access, as VIN is stored in two locations with independent checksums. Overall, the conversation highlights the complexity of reprogramming the power steering module and the need for specific tools to address component protection and VIN coding.

FAQ

TL;DR: Two VIN entries exist in the Astra J EPS, and “VIN is written twice and every one has independent CS.” Use SPS configuration or write both EEPROM VIN fields directly to clear “VIN mismatch.” [Elektroda, kirtreig, post #20992198]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps DIYers and workshops fix Opel Astra J (2010) EPS VIN errors after module replacement, fast and safely.

Quick Facts

How do I fix “VIN mismatch” after replacing the Astra J EPS module?

Try this: 1) Run SPS and perform EPS configuration (not programming). 2) If VIN change by command fails, use IOterminal on-bench. 3) Write the VIN in both EEPROM locations to match the car. “VIN is written twice and every one has independent CS.” [Elektroda, kirtreig, post #20992198]

Do I need to log out component protection before coding a new VIN?

Yes. Opel’s component protection must be logged out first. Attempting to enter a new VIN without logout can block the device. Avoid repeated blind attempts. Complete the logout, then proceed with VIN entry or configuration. [Elektroda, mirek-s11, post #20938716]

Will SPS alone sort out the EPS VIN error?

Often, yes. “SPS will sort this out.” Use SPS with a compatible interface to configure the EPS after replacement. If SPS reports that VIN change is not allowed, fall back to EEPROM-level editing with a dedicated tool. [Elektroda, piotrekwoj1, post #20938814]

Does the Astra J EPS require a PIN code for coding?

No. The EPS does not use a PIN code for VIN coding. Focus on component protection, proper SPS configuration, or EEPROM editing instead of PIN retrieval. [Elektroda, kirtreig, post #20992198]

Why does VIN writing fail even when I try via diagnostics?

Because the EPS holds the VIN twice, each with its own checksum. Changing only one field leaves a mismatch. Write both VIN copies and ensure both checksums validate, or SPS configuration will still flag an error. [Elektroda, kirtreig, post #20992198]

Can OP-COM program the Astra J EPS module?

User reports show OP-COM exposes neither programming nor measuring blocks for this EPS. Do not rely on it for VIN coding. Use SPS or an EEPROM tool instead. [Elektroda, london2004, post #16733740]

Can Autocom handle EPS VIN coding or configuration?

One user notes Autocom shows an option to add EPS support. However, menu presence does not guarantee VIN write success on this platform. Validate on your hardware before committing time. [Elektroda, kisiol, post #16734355]

What happens if I enter the new VIN multiple times without logout?

The EPS can lock after several unauthorized VIN attempts. This edge case forces bench work or replacement. Always perform the official logout first to avoid blocking the device. [Elektroda, mirek-s11, post #20938716]

Is cloning the old EPS software to the replacement a valid workaround?

Yes, as a last resort. You can read the old unit on the bench and write its software or EEPROM contents into the replacement to preserve VIN and config. [Elektroda, Jamrug, post #16738684]

Do PINs or common universal testers solve this EPS VIN issue?

No. Reports indicate no device in that set completes this job via PIN, and PINs do not help here. Use SPS configuration or EEPROM access instead. [Elektroda, damdam, post #17741175]

Which tool writes the VIN directly in the EPS EEPROM?

IOterminal works directly with the EPS EEPROM. Remember to write the VIN in both locations because each has an independent checksum. [Elektroda, kirtreig, post #20992198]

Trailer hitch module: reverse and fog lights stay on—what should I check?

Verify trailer module configuration and output control, then inspect the harness for short-to-battery on reverse and fog circuits. If the original module burned, compare coding between modules and test outputs on-bench. Replace or reconfigure as needed. [Elektroda, Pati, post #21712225]
