    Hey,
I am looking for a car for my wife. It must be a car with a gasoline engine and an automatic transmission. Car only to the city, therefore, the smallest - segment A or B. The budget is about 5000 PLN (I can stretch it to say 8000 PLN, but it's already in the process of searching for a specific piece).
I am asking you for help on which models and versions to look for - in which cars were installed successful and inexpensive gearboxes and which cars to avoid. From the initial search, they caught my eye:
    Renault Clio II (1.4 16v or 1.6 16v)
VW Polo III, possibly IV (1.4 8v or 1.4 16v)
    VW Lupo / Seat Arosa (1.4 8v)
    Nissan Micra K11

Which of them were the best machines installed? Or maybe some other suggestions?
    Thank you in advance.

Exactly. Among others that's why I have no idea about machines in such small and old cars. Of the Polish salons, it is rather impossible to find - everything downloaded.

I realize that in such a low budget the condition of a particular item is the most important, not the model and the brand. However, it is important for me to choose a model with a good case, and at the same time as cheap as possible in possible repairs.

The Corsa C does not have the Easytronic automated chest in what was in Punto? I have not heard very favorable opinions about them.

Twingo II quickshift, but I honestly do not know the opinion about this car and this box but such a car can appeal to a woman and for this will be quite fresh. I know that this brand does not suit everyone but maybe you should consider this option.

I do not have any aversion to the brand, what's more, I remember it quite well. The question is what the box is working there.

    Renault Clio II (1.4 16v or 1.6 16v) - only with Dp0 (four-speed) gearbox.
VW Polo III, possibly IV (1.4 8v or 1.4 16v) - it is difficult to find a classic automaton, usually semi-automatic (falling off).
VW Lupo / Seat Arosa (1.4 8v) - as above.
Nissan Micra K11 - drops out, because CVT, the road in repair.
Ps. Semi-automatic gearboxes do not have a gearshift paddle P .

    Thank you very much!
So from the above proposals only Clio II with Dp0 gearbox?
Will there still be any alternatives that are worth recommending?

Daihatsu Cuore 1.0 L251 or L701, (L256 is no longer enough). Classic hydraulic automatic transmission, cars made in Japan.

The sister has a Honda Jazz with an automatic chest. It is true that it gave a lot more than 8 thousand. but it was almost 10 years ago. So now you can find an older one for that price. They keep their fitness well despite the passage of years and it goes well with it. You only add gas and go alone. In addition, it has a +/- shift buttons on the steering wheel.
    The engine has 1.4
    Good luck!

At Honda Jazz, you have to prepare 2x8 thousand in the machine, so I advise you to check before recommending anything.

I bought a Ford Fiesta 1.4 wife, robotic box (parts the same as Opel). For now, it's like a needle.

Wisdom is unnecessary. After all, you did not recommend anything for speaking in a discussion :)
I have no way to check it out. The interested person will check. It's hard for me to search all offers and determine if someone will sell me for 5, 8 or 15 thousand. The price in the offer is one, and the price for which you will later buy something else.
Maybe some older copy for 8,000 is in range. You have to look.

Topic summary

FAQ

TL;DR: On ~90% of these tiny used-city cars, automatics are imports; “an automatic in this class is a gem.” Best bets: Clio II with DP0; avoid weak semi‑automatics and costly CVTs. [Elektroda, daro31ie, post #16761116] Why it matters: You want a small, cheap, city-friendly gasoline car with an automatic that won’t drain your repair budget.

Quick Facts

What’s the most budget‑safe automatic from the list (Clio, Polo/Lupo, Micra)?

Choose Renault Clio II with the DP0 4‑speed automatic. It’s a conventional unit, not a fragile semi‑automatic or CVT. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

Are VW Polo III/IV automatics a good idea for city use?

Often they are semi‑automatics. The forum warns these are failure‑prone in this class. Prioritize conventional automatics instead. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

Is the Nissan Micra K11 CVT risky on a tight budget?

Yes. It uses a CVT, and repair costs are considered high for this price range. Avoid if funds are limited. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

Any left‑field small car with a simple, durable automatic?

Daihatsu Cuore (L251/L701) offers a classic hydraulic automatic and Japanese build, fitting the brief well. [Elektroda, linx, post #16779773]

How likely is a true automatic to be a local car versus an import?

One poster notes about 90% will be imports, as true automatics are rare locally in this class. [Elektroda, daro31ie, post #16761116]

What is the DP0 gearbox mentioned for Clio II?

DP0 is a four‑speed conventional automatic used in Clio II. It’s the recommended pick from that lineup. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

How can I tell if the car has a semi‑automatic gearbox on a quick inspection?

Semi‑automatics in this context lack the “P” position on the selector. Quick check: 1) Inspect shifter, 2) Look for “P”, 3) If absent, be cautious. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

Is Renault Twingo II Quickshift worth a look?

It was suggested as appealing and fairly fresh, but the poster couldn’t vouch for the gearbox’s reputation. Test thoroughly. [Elektroda, E8600, post #16761233]

Is Honda Jazz with automatic realistic under ~8,000 PLN?

No. A responder advises budgeting about 2×8,000 PLN for a Jazz automatic, so it exceeds this cap. [Elektroda, sebap, post #16780219]

Does Opel Corsa C use Easytronic like some Fiat models, and is it OK?

Corsa C can have Easytronic (automated manual). One user reports a similar robotic unit in a Fiesta working fine. [Elektroda, Aleksander_01, post #16780361]

What about VW Lupo or Seat Arosa with 1.4 for city errands?

These often came with semi‑automatics. The thread flags them as failure‑prone, so shop very carefully. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

Any simple rule to prioritize transmissions when shopping?

Pick conventional automatics first (e.g., DP0). De‑prioritize semi‑automatics and CVTs on a tight budget. “Buy the box, then the car.” [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16762288]

What’s a realistic shopping budget mentioned for these city cars?

The search targeted about 5,000 PLN, stretching to roughly 8,000 PLN for the right example. [Elektroda, artur_r0, post #16761100]
