    Hello

For some time there has been an EGS Sensors transmission switch l1-l4 transmission error. (6hp26)
Replacement gear jack, regenerated mechatronics and then the same ...
Is there a solenoid in gear mechatronics responsible for shifting gears or a gear position sensor?
I will be grateful for your help

    Regards

You didn't enter the error number. On the valve plate there is such a solenoid valve as you ask MV2. BMW e63: EGS Transmission Error L1-L4, ZF 6hp26 - Solenoid or Gear Position Sensor Issue?

5088 - Sensor, transmission switch L1 - L4. I didn't have a BMW with this problem. I wrote in Google - BMW E63 DTC 5088 - this topic is discussed in Polish and American forums, gear shifting jacks.

The jack is changed and the same thing ... sometimes helps sometimes not from what I see on Polish and foreign forums.
The worst part is that solenoids are included in this case PLN 1170 gross per set.
And it is possible that the problem lies somewhere in the mechatronics itself, and here the cost increases to about PLN 7,000.
I don't know if a better way would be to replace the mechatronics of the whole used chest.

The worst part is that solenoids are included in this case PLN 1170 gross per set. - You can buy it by the piece.
And it is possible that the problem lies somewhere in the mechatronics itself and here the cost increases to about PLN 7,000. - If there is damage in mechatronics, it can be repaired .
I don't know if a better way would be to replace the mechatronics of the whole used chest. - You would have to have mechatronics from a car from the same year, from the same engine version.

    Is this a solenoid valve?
    http://midparts.com.pl/pl/p/ZF-6HP26-MV1-MV2-ELEKTROZAWOR-SHIFT-OEM-0501-319-037/4414
I just know that the box must be with the same serial number.
Man, I don't know what to do because it may turn out that the solenoid valves will not solve the problem and you will have to buy any other mechatronics anyway.
It is a pity that I have a piece for you because I could come to fix this problem ..

Generally, sometimes there is a problem with the recognition of the D ... P and R gear is ok I give it to D and goes into 3rd gear and always on a warm engine.
Additionally, this problem only occasionally occurs after 400 km.
Yesterday I drove very dynamically and did not perform.
So try to replace this Parking solenoid valve and not this mv2 shift?
A set of PLN 1,200 and the question: is it better to replace the set ...

In this case, maybe instead of a complete set I will replace only the mv2 or the parking lot?
    What would you advise?
    I found a 2k functional case and I don't know what to decide ...

Give it a rest with solenoid valves, better buy a used chest.
Make sure that the mechatronic has the same number and everything matches p & p
In my case, I bought a used chest and applied only electronics from mechatronics.
Then coding to make everything match and the box worked fine.
The cost is 500 PLN, plus a robot.
Immediately set out to change the oil in the box and regenerate the mechatronics so that it has arms and legs.

How do I know what my chest and mechatronics are? I know that I have a 6hp26 engine 218km. The question is, when changing the box to one that is sure you need to drain, change oil? And the converter? Must it be with the chest?

FAQ

TL;DR: BMW E63 DTC 5088 on ZF 6HP26? A proven fix cost 500 PLN, and “give it a rest with solenoid valves, better buy a used chest.” Swap mechatronics electronics, code it, then change oil. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #17999464]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps DIYers and techs decide between solenoids, mechatronics repair, or a used unit when chasing L1–L4 switch faults.

Quick Facts

What does BMW DTC 5088 (L1–L4) mean on an E63 with ZF 6HP26?

It flags the transmission switch/sensor path for ranges L1–L4. It is an EGS input issue related to range detection within the 6HP26. The code itself does not prove a bad shifter or solenoid yet; it only points to that circuit’s monitoring. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16876359]

Is the 5088 fault more likely a solenoid or the gear selector (jack)?

Both appear in fixes. The MV2 shift solenoid exists on the valve plate, and mechatronics faults can be repaired. As one expert put it, “If there is damage in mechatronics, it can be repaired.” Start with accurate code readouts and component checks. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16876704]

Which solenoid affects Park/shift recognition on the 6HP26?

The parking/lock function uses the MV3 solenoid (E-version). When Park recognition or engagement is inconsistent, technicians often examine MV3 first, along with wiring and connector health. Matching part variants is important during replacement. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16878457]

Symptoms: P and R are fine, but selecting D jumps to 3rd on a warm engine. Where to look?

This symptom was reported after long drives (~400 km). The poster considered the parking MV3 versus the MV2 shift solenoid. Heat can reveal marginal solenoids or mechatronics electronics. Inspect MV3, then MV2, before larger replacements. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #16878628]

Do I need to buy a full solenoid set to troubleshoot 5088?

No. “You can buy it by the piece.” Targeted replacement can reduce cost when diagnostics point to a single solenoid. Confirm color/type compatibility before ordering. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16876704]

What real-world fix from this thread resolved 5088 long-term?

One owner bought a used transmission, transplanted only the mechatronics electronics, then coded the unit. The car shifted fine afterward. They also advised an immediate oil change and mechatronics refresh. Reported cost was ~PLN 500 plus labor. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #17999464]

How much might parts cost if I go the replacement route?

A user reported a solenoid set around PLN 1,170. Full mechatronics work could reach about PLN 7,000. These figures help budget decisions before teardown. “Set” pricing varies by color/type. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #16876667]

If I buy used mechatronics, what must match for plug‑and‑play?

Match year and engine version. Ideally, match mechatronics numbers for straightforward coding and adaptation. Cross‑generation swaps complicate calibration and may fail to code. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16876704]

How do I identify which solenoids are installed (color/type)?

Open the pan and check the solenoid body color codes before ordering. ZF 6HP26 units used different color calibrations. Ordering by color prevents mixed response characteristics. [Elektroda, romuald-f, post #16878701]

Will replacing the gear selector (jack) always fix 5088?

No. In this case, the shifter was replaced and the fault returned. Other owners note it sometimes helps, sometimes not. Plan diagnostics beyond the shifter to avoid repeat work. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #16876667]

After swapping mechatronics electronics, is coding required?

Yes. The successful repair included coding the transplanted electronics so all vehicle parameters matched. After coding, shifting normalized. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #17999464]

If I replace the transmission, should I change the oil and service mechatronics?

Yes. The author who fixed the issue recommended changing the transmission oil immediately and refurbishing the mechatronics. This helps longevity and shift quality after the swap. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #17999464]

How do I start a practical fix path when 5088 persists after shifter replacement?

Try this: 1) Source a used 6HP26 with matching mechatronics numbers. 2) Transplant only the mechatronics electronics. 3) Code the unit, then replace fluid and consider mechatronics refresh. This path solved the thread case. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #17999464]

What part numbers should I note before ordering or swapping?

Record the transmission model (e.g., 6HP26) and the mechatronics serial. Owners referenced numbers like 6HP26 1068010093 when discussing compatibility. Keep photos of tags for accuracy. [Elektroda, danyblack1987, post #16876710]
